I wrote another oneshot since I felt so good writing the other one (and you guys seemed to like it so...). This is not about Blackstairs, but about Matthewlucie (the most beautiful hc couple I've ever seen). This headcanon happens a week before Matthew's story in GOTSM (I changed their ages, if anyone ask theirselves). Hope you like it as much as I do.
headcanon for matthewlucie: where Matthew saves Lucie from a very boring party.
Lucie was bored. It seemed like the Enclave events weren't the same extravagant and scenic balls she liked to write about in her books. She expected to be amazed by the feeling of being in her first party since she turned sixteen. She was a woman now, right? It should mean something.
Turned out that it shouldn't. She was too old to play with the kids, and too young to dance with with someone. Nobody asked a dance, so Lucie was sitting alone in the corner of the hall. She was wishing that magically one of her friends would show up. But it wouldn't happen: Daisy didn't live in London and the Merry Thieves were at the academy and wouldn't come back until tomorrow. How lucky she was.
If at least she had a notebook and a pen...
— You look like somebody who got the demon pox from a duck — Will said as he got closer to Lucie.
Her father had a smile on his face when he sat next to her, it was impossible not to grin. Will always had the best jokes about demon pox and ducks, but she'd never heard both of them on the same phrase.
— What's wrong, Luce bach?
— I know it's Charles' birthday. But this attempt of a party actually sucks.
— Vocabulary! — Will scolded, but he wasn't mad at all. He bowed to her and lowered his voice tone, as he was telling a secret. — I don't know if you noticed, but Charles is not a very funny person.
Lucie laughed. Her dad always had the power of making her feel better in any situation.
— I like Matthew better, too — she said.
— I won't tell aunt Charlotte — Will seemed relieved. — Speaking about her, she shouldn't be here by now?
— Yes, she should. If she was here already, your mom wouldn't be in that situation.
Will glanced to where Tessa were surrounded by some Enclave members and obviously needed to be saved. Sometimes being famous in the Shadowhunter world were very annoying.
— Go save her, dad — Lucie said.
— Not a chance, fy nghariad bach. I came to save you. So get up and dance with me.
She smiled and followed Will to the dance floor. A soft waltz played in the background when he took her hand. Lucie laid her free hand on her dad's shoulder while he held her back. Will led the dance with mastery. Every move they did were perfect and she kept every single one of them inside her mind so later she could write the best dance scene ever for The Beautiful Cordelia.
While they were dancing, she caught Will looking something behind her. He smiled, but she couldn't tell why. She didn't ask, just kept dancing.
Will and Lucie twirled around the floor, moving together until — until they weren't anymore. Lucie was in the middle of a spin when she felt her dad's hands drop her. She was never that good at dancing, she needed someone who could guide her. So, for a millisecond, she thought she would fall without Will.
But then she felt it. The touch of thinner, but daring fingers. The scent of cinnamon and vanilla. Only one person in the world could smell that good. Lucie didn't open her eyes right away, but her smile could've light up the entire room.
— You do know how to make an entrance, Matthew — she opened her eyes and there he was.
Matthew was smiling at her. So fucking beautiful that words couldn't describe, but she was a writer, and she obviously would try it later. His green eyes were glowing like the sea, and his hair was perfectly slicked back. Matthew wore a dark green waistcoat that fit him very well — green was absolutely Matthew's color.
— I knew you needed savior when mom said you were here. I'm kind of a superhero now — he teased.
Matthew was leading the dance now. He was as good as Will, but in a different way. It was different, she thought, dancing with her father and dancing with Matthew. Instead of grabbing one of her hands, he held her waist tight with both of them. It was natural for Lucie to embrace his neck with both arms. Suddenly, she realized they were very close.
But Matthew wouldn't move away, so wouldn't Lucie.
— I thought you would only come back from Idris tomorrow. What are you doing here?
— It's my brother's birthday. I wouldn't miss it.
— Okay. I would definitely miss it. It is boring as f... — he stopped himself, he always did that when he was in her presence, as she doesn't know what those words mean. She rolled her eyes. — But then Jamie said your parents probably would bring you to this terrible party and I knew I had to do something. Being the Consul's son has its privileges, sometimes.
Lucie smiled, thankful. — I'm glad you're here, Math. A party it's not a party without you in it.
Lucie thought about a character she created a few weeks ago, he was the newest love interest for the fictional Cordelia. He caught her attention in a boring ball, just like the one she was right now. For some reason Lucie called him Matthias, the name just felt right in that moment and now she knew why: both him and Matthew were the life of the party.
— You're adorable, Luce bach. But I think not even I can turn this boring ball into a party. It's a complete disaster — she looked around one more time. They were the only ones who were dancing, while the other guests didn't seem to be having the time of their lives. — Wanna get out of here?
She nodded, immediately. — Please.
Matthew grabbed her hand and in a second they were running across the hall. Lucie only had time to find her dad with her eyes, he was next to the door that split the ballroom to the rest of the Consul's house. Will blinked at her when they passed by him.
Lucie followed Matthew around the corridors. Next thing she knew, he had stolen a tray of cupcakes from the kitchen. One of the cooks started to yell at Matthew and threaten him with a wooden spoon. He and Lucie never ran so fast.
When they got to Matthew's room, they were panting and sweating. Lucie's veins were so full of adrenaline she didn't thought what it would look like she being inside a boy's room. She couldn't care less.
Matthew were sitting on his bed and was looking to one of the cupcakes as if they were his greatest enemies.
— Who had the brilliant idea of putting raisins into a cupcake? It's disgusting.
— Raisins? — Lucie frowned. — Nobody likes raisins.
— Exactly! I should know my brother would ruin even the cupcakes' taste — he took another bite. — This is awful, you won't like it.
— Stop eating that, Matthew!
— So am I. But I'm not putting any raisins into my mouth!
They both stopped talking for a second, looking at each other as if the time had stopped for a moment. And then, they started laughing so hard that Lucie's belly started to ache. It was always so easy being around Matthew. Matthew who was always teasing, and making her laugh.
He dropped the bitten cupcake and stood up.
— Come with me, Lu. I wanna show you something.
Matthew took a look at the corridor before leaving the room. That cook really freaked him out, she thought, being careful to not laugh out loud. She followed him upstairs, she never noticed that the house had a third floor.
It wasn't really a floor, she corrected her thoughts when Matthew opened the door. The stairs led to an attic she didn't knew that existed until now.
— You wanted to show me an attic? — Lucie said when they got into the dusty and dark room. Matthew had a witchlight lightning the way.
— Don't be silly, Luce — he stopped in front of a window. — Give me your hand.
Lucie was suspicious, but held out her hand to him even so. Matthew drew a Equilibrium Mark with a Estele he took of his pocket. Now she was more curious than concerned. He opened the window and offered his hand to Lucie when he started to climb it.
— What are you doing? — she seemed astonished.
— Just trust me. I won't let you fall.
Lucie trusted him the same way Jamie did. They were parabatai for a reason. Matthew would never let her fall.
When Lucie looked out of the window, she realized that it led them to the rooftop. Pleased about the Mark Matthew drew on her hand, Lucie felt more confident to follow him above the roof.
He sat down not very far from the window, in a place that were more flat than the rest. Matthew seemed comfortable, and Lucie asked herself if he did that a lot.
— I didn't know you like to hang out in rooftops — she said.
— The stars shine brighter up here — was the only thing he said.
Lucie looked up at the sky. The moon was shining bright gold and the stars were dancing around glowing white. Lucie didn't remember the last time she saw such a lovely night. She started looking for the constellations she knew: orion, andromeda, cygnus...
— Look, Math — she pointed to three stars together. — Those three stars belong to Orion's Belt. Mom thought me and Jamie when we were...
When she glanced back to Matthew, Lucie noticed he wasn't looking to the sky anymore. He was looking at her. Like she was a better view than the beautiful starry night. Like she was the only girl in the world. In the entire galaxy.
— Your eyes shine brighter than the moon when you're amazed by something. Or when you're excited talking about something you like — he said. Lucie blushed. — I'm no good at poetry, but the shiny blue of you eyes is the only thing that worth looking at tonight.
— You're always teasing, Matthew.
— Don't say "maybe". I know how flirting works. I write romances! — Lucie said, sounding confident. — The only thing I wanna know is if you actually mean it!
The world seemed to stop when she said that. Did she want to Matthew really mean it? He had been flirting with her for months now. Lucie could never tell if he was being serious, Matthew was always joking and messing around.
But not this time. He was looking at her but not the same way as always. That playful smile had disappeared from his lips. Matthew's eyes were dark green, filled with something she couldn't tell, but it was so intense she couldn't look away. She knew he wasn't joking anymore.
Suddenly, the truth hit Lucie so hard she thought she could fell off the rooftop: Matthew liked her. He liked her. In a romantic way. And her heart was beating so fast, she knew the only thing a heart racing faster than Balios could mean, she was a writer after all.
Matthew got closer and caressed her face, grabbing her chin between two fingers. The look on his eyes told Lucie everything she needed to know, but he said the words same as well:
They were so close she could feel his breath.
— Will you kiss me right now? — she murmured.
— Maybe — he said once again.
— Not gonna stop until you say you want me to kiss you, too.
— Do you want to? — Lucie was on the edge, making answers she already knew the answer to mask the fear she felt. What if she didn't know how to kiss? What if Matthew hated it? She never got to write a kiss.
— Are you kidding? I've been dreaming about it for a long time now. Every single night.
Lucie bit her bottom lip. Matthew was looking at her as if every night he only slept because he knew he would find her in his dreams. Suddenly, she had the urge to make it real.
— You said you won't let me fall. Right?
It was a question, but she didn't let him answer. Feeling courageous, Lucie crawled to Matthew, sitting on his lap; with her knees clasping his hips. The moment he stopped breathing, was when Lucie knew she got him.
— I'm impressed, miss Herondale — his cheeks were flushed because of the cool wind, but none of them were feeling cold. Lucie's skin was on fire.
Matthew held her tight, keeping his promise of not letting her fall.
— I want you to kiss me, fy machgen hardd.
— What did you just call me?
— Kiss me, I'll tell you la...
Matthew didn't let her finish. It started slow, his mouth moving against hers like a short breath. His hands held Lucie's face as a way of not letting her move away. But Lucie wouldn't go anywhere.
She reciprocated the kiss, parting her lips for Matthew's tongue find hers, hot and delightful. Lucie got even closer to Matthew, wanting more of that kiss that was something she could never write on her books. She felt like drowning, and Math — Matthew's kiss — was the only thing preventing her from submerging. She clawed at his back, feeling it all arriving like a wave.
— Luce... — he moaned and her name felt like a prayer on his lips.
Lucie wanted to feel his skin against hers, she wanted to touch every inch of Matthew, feel his body on her. She touched both of his sides, his arms, his chest over his clothes. Realizing she wasn't shy anymore, Matthew let his hands slide from her neck to her back, pulling her closer. Lucie gasped when her breasts got pressed on his chest, a wave of pleasure reached her all the way down. Matthew's lips were fierce moving over hers; she wanted to kiss Matthew Fairchild forever.
Matthew's hands reached to her hair, and then, the combs Jessamine tied gracefully onto her curls wasn't there anymore. He detached them one by one, his fingers disappearing between her hair; it felt like touching the clouds. Lucie gasped. His kisses moved from her lips to her chin; she tilted her head and then Matthew were lipping her neck. Smelling her perfume, tasting her skin.
Lucie was drowning in the pleasure of having the most handsome boy in London kissing her like she was the only temptation he couldn't get rid of. But they needed to stop before it got too far, she never imagined her first kiss would be that good. But it was more than just good, better than anything she could've dreamt about.
— Math... — she tried to speak but it sounded more like a groan. Lucie brought Matthew's chin up, once again his lips were next to hers, but she didn't let them touch again, or they wouldn't be able to stop. — Matthew.
When she said his name one more time, he seemed to came back to himself, but the obviousness of what they were doing was clear as water on his face: the flush on his cheeks, the swollen lips. Lucie thought he was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.
— By the angel. I'm sorry, Luce — Matthew seemed overwhelmed — I went too far...
— It's ok, Math. You did not — it was still hard to breath, and her heart was almost jumping out of her chest. But it was so worth it.
Matthew touched her forehead with his own. — It was... — he couldn't find the words. — Are you sure it was your first kiss?
— I'd remember if it wasn't, Math — she giggled.
— So I'm honored to be the first guy to know Lucie Ella Herondale kisses like this.
She was blushing again. — You never stop flirting, do you?
He just shook his head. — Never.
Matthew kissed her forehead.
— We should go back to the party. Your parents must be looking for us. And I don't want your dad to come after me.
Lucie laughed. — He wouldn't do that... I guess...
Matthew helped her stand up and walk back to the window. They made their way back to the house, where they got to the living room, there's no way they could get back to the ball room, not when they were so undone.
He placed some pillows on the floor and sat on the couch. — Sit down, I'll fix your hair.
Lucie looked at him, grateful, and said what he asked. For some reason, Matthew knew exactly what he was doing when he started to tie the combs on her hair. She didn't even knew when he kept the combs, but he did. Matthew was almost done when three people entered the living room, they didn't seem worried at all: Will, Tessa and Charlotte.
— What were you doing? — Will frowned while he asked.
— We were at the training room, Lucie wanted some combat tips. She got her hair messed up, so I was fixing it for her.
— You're such a gentleman, Matthew — Tessa smiled.
— I'd do anything for Lu.
— What is that on your neck, Lucie? — Charlotte asked.
By the angel, this is so embarrassing, she thought. Matthew's caresses were marked on her skin.
— Matthew hit me. A few times — she added, not knowing how much of those marks were on her neck. — We were so focused we forgot to draw an iratze. But don't worry, I'm completely fine.
The look Tessa and Charlotte shared made Lucie want to dig a whole and bury herself. There's no way they didn't knew. Only Will seemed to buy the story, and that had to be enough. Not that she wouldn't tell her dad, but there's things about that night she still wanted to keep to herself. A time that was only hers and Matthew's.
Tessa, Will and Charlotte walked out the room whispering and laughing, after Lucie's mom said they were about to leave. Matthew helped Lucie stood up and they glanced at each other.
— Thank you for the night. You really saved me. It couldn't end up better — she said.
— Anytime you need, cariad.
— I didn't know you knew that one — she smiled.
— I've been learning some Welsh.
— So I'm teaching you some more words tonight, fy machgen hardd — she stood on tiptoe to reach his ear and whispered: — It's what I called you earlier. My beautiful boy.
