Fan Brush New Work by Matt Muirhead

The John Fonda Gallery at Theatre Project is pleased to announce Fan Brush new works by Matt Muirhead from November 22nd, 2013 through December 22nd, 2013. The reception will be held Friday, December 6th from 5-7PM. Fan Brush is guest-curated for The John Fonda Gallery by Allison Gulick.   Matt Muirhead is a multimedia artist originally from England and currently based in the Baltimore neighborhood of Hampden. Predominately a painter, he uses a wide variety of media to create his energetic compositions.  Muirhead’s work is enthralling and at times whimsical, with bright colors and movement he creates a space where art is fun again. Serious about his practice, but willing to take risks, he combines thrift-store rejects with references to pop-culture, giving new life to sadly mass produced images of redundant landscapes and forgotten Americana. Muirhead has the talent of seamlessly integrating the old and new with the odd and out-of-place. Using a vast array of mediums he gives his compositions a sense of unity and depth, while giving his audience a reason for a double-take and a hearty laugh.  Muirhead is also the artist behind the artwork on Stacey Chambers magical bus clothing store GoGo’s Retread Threads and he is also an active musician, making his own instruments and playing with the experimental band The Immortal Jellyfish .
