Day 11: Frailty means the condition of being weak and delicate. Or weakness in character or morals. This film from 2001 directed by Bill Paxton has always been a favorite. The story is about a father who loves his sons, he’s not abusive. He’s convinced an angel has come to him commanding him to kill demons masquerading as people. The consequences have ramifications in the boys futures when they grow up. The movie warns against religious extremes, zealots, fundamentalists. The price is paid to the horror of others. This reminds me of the news story I heard as a kid about Andrea Yates, a mother who “believed” her children were possessed by Satan; thus drowning them to save their souls. This film brings up good discussion for religious extremists. Which is frighteningly familiar. Follow blindly is the only way to show you’re faith and how devout you are.
