I'm very, very, very curious about your thoughts on Matty Williams. Canon Divergence might work for your fic, I think. Or Deviates From Canon, maybe.
Matty williams huh? I don't know, there was something that always grated at me about the show was the amount of secondary character they had that were SOLID, with so much potential for story arcs in multiple eps, but they never went further than just the one lonely ep.
Matty is one of those characters, because yeah, danny had a storyline after with the whole marco reyes thing, but matty himself was only on that one ep, I'm not sure we even know about the "wish you were here" post card thing before reyes appears on the show and it becomes relevant.
And with matty and later bridget, we kinda get a glimpse that danny was the golden child of the family, or at least they felt like he was. I'm mostly inclined to believe it was only their perception of him, because we know for a fact danny perception of himself is always kinda clouded by his own anxieties. So maybe he felt like he needed to put out a strong front, specially for a guy that has such a strong - and loud - caring nature. If his kid siblings knew he was so insecure they may not trust him to keep them safe. But that attitude also put a barrier between them, that made matty and bridget feel like they couldn't reach to danny for help when they really really needed it
And y'know if you gonna embezzle money for cartels maybe don't have a cop brother, matty, and then go visit him in an island. C'mon
But yeah, matty clearly had a bit of a naivety to him, when he ran off with the money. Probably a load of insecurities in admitting his own mistakes, that all comynated in him getting caught by reyes because he was bound to slip
That isn't to say he didnt care for danny or had some foresight, what other reason he had to leave with only five million and stash everything else for danny to find? He knew if anyone could find it, it was his big brother, if ever trouble came knocking on his door because matty couldn't handle it
So yeah these are my way too long thoughts on matty williams, I might be wrong about the whole thing, but I think he was a really good character to have a longer story arc to explore with danny
And thanks for the tag suggestion! I might put it as canon divergent now yeah, I'm not sure what I can consider as canon compliant, so I think I better change the tag on the fic really
why do people have to corrupt my Matty?! HE WAS CORRUPTED ENOUGH
I love My Best Friend's Girl but when Kate Hudson is one of my face-canons as Matty Williams sister and Matt is played by Dane Cook...it's like STOP KISSING YOUR SISTER
Marty McWilliams AU: Mary and Matty meet. (in the middle of unexplained plot...Matt is alive...just go with it)
They met at the party Steve and Danny threw to introduce Kaleah to everyone. Mary had brought Joan, so the two could play, and Matt, reunited with his brother, had been sleeping on the McGarrett couch for the past two days.
While everyone fawned over the baby, Matt snuck away to the kitchen to hunt down alcohol. He was happy for his brother; really, he was. But all the attention over the kid was getting a bit nauseating. No one was happy to see him again. Sure, he had done horrible stuff; especially to Danny. But he was trying to make up for that.
He found a bottle of Jack far into the upper cabinet. It was funny, seeing how Steve put it there because the baby couldn’t get it. But Matt knew it was because Danny couldn’t reach that high without his help and Steve found it funny.
“Care to share?” a voice caught him midswing. He choked to swallow it down and turned towards the woman. He had heard stories of Mary McGarrett before. The problem child of the family; he could relate to that. But she seemed far different than the stories. She looked more mature, grown up, than Steve let on. She was back to being blond, with her hair up in a pony tail and a floral dress on. He expected her to be all grudgey with ripped jeans and cut off shirts. This was a nice look too.
“You must be Mary.”
“You must be the bad Williams,” she said skeptically as she took the bottle from him. He smiled a little at her attitude. It was a bit like Steve’s only less judging. She was edgy. He liked it. “Why aren’t you out there with everyone else?” it was his ‘niece’ after all.
“People aren’t very happy to see me.” “Well you did shoot your brother,”
“Hey! I had no choice, alright? He gave me the okay to do it,” Mary rolled her eyes and let him take the bottle back. He took a long sip with his eyes trained on her as she hopped onto the island counter.
“Even with the okay, you shot your brother. Your own big brother! How could you do that? And in the stomach! You could have gotten his shoulder or his foot or something more humane.”
“If I shot his shoulder, he wouldn’t be able to work for a while, or pick up the precious baby. And I don’t have the best aim so he would have ended up losing a few piggies if I went for the foot.”
He’s not sure what part of that she smirked at. “Jealous of a baby?”
“I’m not jealous.” “She’s getting all the attention that you think you desire for being back. What do you expect? She’s an innocent adorable baby that he adopted from a family that had been murdered and abandoned her. And you…”
“…shot my brother, I know,” Matt rolled his eyes. He couldn’t help but smile when she started laughing. Soon he was joining her and from then on it seemed like he never stopped.
She got Steve to babysit Joan without him knowing what she was doing. Matt took her to a luau on one of the closer islands so none of their brothers would find out. After dinner they walked along shore and he was afraid to hold her hand. She called him a pussy and kissed him.
It was easily the best date Matt’s ever had. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Their a few dates in when Matt finally allows them to sleep together. He had been reluctant. Because, come on. This was Steve McGarrett’s little sister and the guy could kill Matt 80 different ways without anyone finding out. Not to mention, he’s more sure that there is more to Danny living and raising this baby with his best friend than just that. Matt had seen how his brother was with the other man when he was first in town. It seems things have only gotten worse since then. Not worse because Matt doesn’t like the idea of that happening. He doesn’t mind; he wants his big brother happy. But worse because Danny can be so stubborn and won’t admit it til his death bed if he gets his way.
Mary’s straddling his lap and biting his ear when he comes to his senses. “Wait, wait, wait,” Matt pushes at her shoulders a bit. He can hear her roll her eyes; that’s how well he knows her now. “I can’t be a dad.”
Mary smirks at him, “That’s what protection is for. I swear, are you a teenager still? Just shut up and fuck…”
“…no not that!” Matt rolls his eyes this time. “I mean…I can’t be one for Joan. I’m not…I won’t be good at it. I would just disappoint her and you and you’d hate me and I’d leave and I don’t want that to happen.”
Even though he’s saying he doesn’t want to be a father for her kid, Mary finds it as sweet as him saying he will be. Because that means he cares enough to be afraid of screwing up. She smiles and kisses him deep and promises he doesn’t have to be.
But by the end of the month, Joan has Matt wrapped around her little pinkie and he’s okay with that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a spontaneous thing. Very spontaneous, as in he had no idea he was going to do it until he was doing it.
“I got a job offer in California. It’s a really good one; pays a lot and gives me insurance which of course I need,” Mary says absentmindedly as she flips through his mail. She has a tendency to do that. Joan is on his lap, trying stealing a banana from his plate while he bounces his knee. She’d struggle and stare up at him with frustration and it’s the cutest thing he’s ever seen.
Then her words hit him. She’d have to move to California. She’d have to take Joan with her.
The way Matt saw it, he had two options. One, he could go with them. Leave his brother again, and create a fresh start where no one knew what a fuck up he was. But he didn’t like that option, because he didn’t want to leave Danny again. Not after all the progress they’ve made.
So that left him with option two.
“Hey, babe, hold her for a sec,” Mary frowns with confusion as Matt passes her Joan like a football. “Matt, what the hell…?” she asks at his weird behavior. He’s halfway through pretending to bend to tie his shoe when he realizes how stupid he’s being and huffs a laugh up at her.
With a bashful nod, he shrugs and grins up at her. “Will you marry me…or something?”
“Or something? Will you marry me or something? Are you insane? Are you completely mental?” he takes that as a no and is about to stand up when she huffs. “God, Matt, that’s the best you can do? Ask again nicely.”
And when he asks nicely, with a please and everything, she chuckles with tears she doesn’t want to allow and calls him an idiot before he kisses her. Joan coos between them and grabs Matt’s chin. He laughs against her lips and pulls apart in order to take Joan. It’s a pretty perfect moment.
…Until Danny finds out.
“You’re marrying my best friend’s sister? You’re marrying my—” Matt cringes as Danny rants. He’s gotten so worked up that he can’t even rant anymore, which is worse than him actually ranting. The words get stuck in his chest and he lets out a loud groan. “Damn it, Matty! Did you even think about me in this situation?” “Actually I…” did. “No! Of course you didn’t! You didn’t think about me or how I’m going to be Steve’s frickin brother-in-law now! Oh, my god, I’m going to be his brother in law,” the realization made Danny crash. He caved down into the couch and buried his face in his hands. Matt tried to pat his back but Danny flinched away, “No, don’t touch me! I need space. Space! Move…away! Go.”
Matt spends a few nights at Mary’s until he gets a text from his brother to meet him where Matt had buried the money. At first, Matt thought Danny was going to get back at him and shoot him dead. But he realized that was stupid. Danny wouldn’t kill him…would he?
When he gets there, Danny’s leaning against his car when his brows frowned and his arms crossed.
“Hey, big brother. You…how’s your stomach?”
The older one lifts his shirt to show the small scar, “Healed up…for the most part.”
“Good. Good.” “You screwed everything up, Matt,”
“I-I know…” “No, you don’t know,” Danny’s voice shook. Matt noticed he was smiling; not a happy one. The one he used to give Matt when he was disappointed. Matt hates that look. “You don’t know. I know that I’m…”
“…head over heels in love with the guy?” Matt says it when Danny can’t. “Well yeah, Matt!” Danny throws his arms in the air. “I know that I am. You knew that I was. I know you did because you act a lot more polite and so unlike you when you’re around him which you only do when you’re trying not to mess something up for me. But you did; you messed things up. He’s back with Catherine now.”
Matt doesn’t see how that’s his fault, but his stomach drops at his brother swallowing a lump in his throat. “Aw, Dan. Shit, man, I’m…”
“…doesn’t matter,” there’s that smile again. The sad one; only now Danny’s trying to smile for real, “Not really you’re fault anyway. Forget it. You want to marry Mary then…marry her. I’ll be…I am happy for.”
They hug it out and things seem like they’re going to be okay again.
Though Matt doubts Danny will be happy when he finds out that he’ll be his best man while Steve walks Mar down the aisle in place of their dad.
AU: Danny’s dad has a heart attack and Steve doesn’t listen.
Danny woke up the next morning to the sound of a shovel scrapping against the pavement. It wasn’t an unusual sound to hear in Jersey—in fact it was welcoming—but the alarm clock on his left said it was still only 730 AM and no way in hell would any of his family members be up to move the snow off their walkway. The only other person who would do this besides for himself would be his father. The thought makes his eyes sting with tears he’s been fighting since the phone call yesterday morning. God, was it really just yesterday that Andie called him? It seemed so long ago that he was sitting in his office in Hawaii and now here he was, lying in his childhood bed in his parents’ house in Jersey.
Even in privacy, Danny refused to cry. He needs to be the man in charge now more than ever. His mom needs him to keep them on their feet and keep everyone sane. He’s not sure how he’s going to manage that when he feels like jelly himself, but he has to.
With a groan, he stretched his arms and legs to shake off the stiffness of sleep. His bed was never comfortable; much too stiff except for the lump just at the knee from when him and Matty got in a fight and split grape juice on the bed. It bleed threw the blankets, onto the mattress and stained before they could stop it. Of course, Matty tried with all his might to get the stain out. He used every combination his little seven year old brain could think of before he finally decided to cut that part of the mattress out and cover it with the sheets again. Their mom found out the next night when she went to put her hand down to support herself and it slipped right through the sheets. The bed has never been the same and Danny loves the home-repaired lump.
His back popped in a few places, reminding him that he is in fact not sixteen anymore and despite what everyone has joked about he has grown since his youth. Danny rolls himself off of the bed and wiggles his feet against the cold wood floors. That’s one thing he does not miss about Jersey; first thing in the morning, you’re fighting against frostbite from your own floor.
He shuffles way to the window. It stopped snowing, miraculously, but there’s a good seven inches on the ground. Through the fog on the window, he can see someone shoveling the walkway with great determination. The whole trail is cleared, but they keep going over to make sure it’s perfectly paved. At first, Danny assumes it’s a helpful neighbor. The man who lives next door to them often runs out when he sees Clare struggling with too many grocery bags, or when it’s fall and there are too many leaves for her to handle. Pops is good with that stuff too, but he was at the station a lot at that point. Now that he’s retired, he steps up instantly to woo his wife again.
It takes a few blinks for Danny’s eyes to focus, but he could swear that person is Steve. Only that would be crazy; Steve is in Hawaii. Steve could not be shoveling Danny’s parents’ walkway at 730 AM in only a thin coat and cargos. There’s no way. No.
The person shoveling that’s a moment to whip at their forehead. There neck cranes at just the right angle that Danny could make of their face from his bedroom window. He’s heart drops into his stomach when he sees that it is, in fact, Steve’s pink face he’s looking at. “Oh my god.”
The man is relentless. The man needs to learn when to take no for an answer. The man is…shoveling Danny’s parents’ walkway at 730 AM after a blizzard and his father had a heart attack in New Jersey.
Danny sniffs away the pressure building behind his eyes; he blames it on the cold and tries not to bolt out of the room and down the stairs. With his hands shoved into his sweat pant pockets, he takes the stairs one at a time and tries not to let his lip quiver too much.
Clare is standing by the front door, watching with a mug of coffee in both her hands. Her eyebrows are frowning, but from the twinkle in her eye, Danny knows she’s just as appreciative for Steve’s stubbornness as he is. She doesn’t look away from the screen door even when Danny mumbles a good morning and rubs her shoulder. “He arrived at 530. I tried getting him to rest, but he insisted on helping. He’s been going at that damn snow for two hours.”
Danny just nods. He knows if he tries talking, the lump in his throat will form bigger and he’ll end up crying like he fears. Instead he bits down on the inside of his bottom lip and takes the mug his mother holds out. She turns away from the door to walk into the kitchen, saying something about breakfast when something on his face must have caught her attention. She pauses in front of him, her own face loose with grief and worry, and rubs at the stubble against his cheek. She gives him a smile—it’s too sad for his liking but it’s the first real one he’s gotten since he arrived—and rubs the indent of his chin before smoothening out his jaw. “He’s a good one, Danny.”
“Hmm.”
Once she’s out of sight and he can hear her making busy work in the kitchen, he puts the coffee on the side table next to the couch and steps out into the biting air. He’s only in a t-shirt and loose sweats, not nearly enough to protect him from the cold but he doesn’t care. He just crosses his arms over his chest and squints through the gray sunlight towards his partner. Steve, who hasn’t noticed him yet, continues to stab at some ice on the pavement until it cracks and he can scrape it towards the boarder.
It’s not until the screen door shuts completely that Steve notices him standing there.
For a second, he doesn’t register its Danny. He looked up at the door, then back at the red shovel in his hands and looks back up so fast Danny could hear the pop of his neck. “Oh.”
Oh, Danny thinks as he bits his cheek. I catch the guy shoveling my walkway and ‘Oh’ he says.
“I uh, I got the trail done and most of the driveway but it started snowing again so I had to start over. And I found half a bag of salt in the garage but it’s only going to cover a quarter of driveway. I’ll go to the store and pick up a few bags after I’m done shoveling. I’m almost done getting this ice out of here; I don’t want your mom or sisters slipping cause they don’t notice the ice under a layer of ufh.” Steve didn’t have time to register that Danny was on the stairs one second and flinging himself in the air the next. He caught his partner by the arms before they could fall into the untouched snow. Danny was freezing, shaking against his chest—but that wasn’t from the snow, Steve realized when he felt something wet on his shoulder—and has never held onto him this tight before.
Once his mind snapped fully into place, Steve wrapped his arms around Danny’s back and held him close to his chest. He decided not to mention Danny crying softly into his shoulder. He knows he will talk when he’s ready. For now, he’ll just be here for Danny and rub between his shoulder blades and if he kisses at the hair just above his ear, well neither of them cares to make a deal of it right now.
“You’re in Jersey.” Danny mumbles into the crewneck. Steve shivers at his breath against his skin. Instead of speaking, he gives Danny’s cheek one last peck while he still can and nods. He wished they could stay like this forever. But of course, Danny has to ruin it. He steps back far enough to slap Steve’s arm hard enough that it stings. “You’re in freaking Jersey when I told you not to come here?”
“Why are you yelling at me?” Steve gaps. He thought this was a good thing. “Because you don’t listen to what you’re told!” of course, Danny’s over the moon that Steve didn’t listen but he’s not going to let this go that easy. Steve notices him bouncing on his heels and hugging his own chest before Danny realizes he’s doing it.
“Let’s get you inside, Danno; it’s too cold for you to be standing’ out here without shoes or a coat.” Steve, the fucking idiot, takes the thin jacket off of him and places it over Danny’s shoulders while trying to direct him towards the house.
“Me? Look at you! You’re in freakin’ cargo pants. Where’d you even get that jacket from anyway? It barely looks heavy enough to warm my dog.”
“You don’t have a dog, Danno.” “That is not true. We have a dog at home.” He might be mad—okay, not mad, but trying very hard to be—but his face hurts from the cooling tears and built pressure releasing and it’s a lot colder now that the shock of Steve’s arrival wore off. So he hugs the coat closer to his shoulders and let’s Steve steer him into the house.
Steve doesn’t comment on the fact that one, Danny referred to Jensen as ‘their’ dog, not Gracie’s, and two, that despite being in Jersey, he’s calling Hawaii home. Both warm his heart too much for him to handle, so he just…doesn’t.
“Let’s got you a fresh cup of coffee and some breakfast huh?” Steve suggests, rubbing Danny’s arms from behind him as they reach the steps. Danny suddenly freezes and turns around. He’s one step above Steve, making him just a few inches taller for once and is looking down at him with such heavy eyes it hurts.
“You came to Jersey, at 5am.” Danny whispers. His shaky breath fogs in the air and mixes with Steve’s when he sighs.
“530, actually.” “Steve,” his voice is firm, official, like when Danny means business. Steve looks up from his collar to see Danny’s eyes closed. His long eyelashes brush his too pink cheeks and Steve just wants to rub them with his thumb. “You took the red-eye to Jersey even though I told you not to.”
He doesn’t know why Danny is surprised of this. How could he not know Steve would come? When Danny opens his eyes, he looks utterly exhausted. All Steve could do is give him a soft smile and nod, before Danny leans his forehead closer until it rests on his shoulder. He wraps his arm around his partner’s waist and nuzzles the side of his head, “I will always come when you need me, Danno.”
Danny only gives himself another minute before he pushes away the emotions. Steve can physically see him shutting down in front of him and he hates it. No wonder Danny goes crazy when Steve does it practically every day. “Come on, Super Seal,” he says with as strong of a voice as he could master. He almost sounds like Danny again, but not quite yet, “You’ve been going at it for hours, Ma says, and I don’t care what excuses you’re gonna give me; you are coming upstairs and sleeping until sane people are supposed to be up.”
“But—” “What did I just say? I mean it, come on. ‘sides, you’re gonna be thanking me when Andie and Zoe wake up and you realize what at madhouse you brought yourself into. Trust me, no one should experience the Williams’ women without at least 5 hours of sleep in them. We’re lucky if we can squeeze in 3.”
We. Meaning Danny would be sleeping too. And though it wasn’t said, Steve knows Danny won’t want to sleep apart. It’s something they haven’t done before; not officially. Danny fell asleep beside Steve’s hospital bed after Wo Fat, his head resting by their linked hands and a killer back ache to great him in the morning. That didn’t stop him from doing it again when the next accident happened. And of course, Steve slept in the chair in the corner of Danny’s room after he got out of prison; but Danny thinks he slept on the couch in the living room.
No, they’ve never slept in the same bed before. Course Steve’s thought about it; wanted it. But it wasn’t something he thought would happen. He had a hotel room booked but Clare cancelled it the moment he walked in. He figured they’d stick him on the couch or something.
Danny’s leading Steve up the stairs by the hand; their palms are both sweating but neither mention it or pull away. Steve’s neck is burning at what’s about to happen, though he’s sure Danny’s too tired to even register it. Danny though is trying not to think about it because if he thinks about it, he’ll chicken out.
He almost stops them when they enter the bedroom and the two twin beds are visible in front of them. The logical, normal thing would be to stick Steve in his bed and Danny can sleep in Matt’s. But Danny can’t yet bring himself to sleep in that bed and subconsciously he just wants to curl up under his warm covers and tuck himself into Steve’s side. So that’s exactly what he plans to do; he abandon’s Steve’s hand and crawls back onto his bed. He’s got the covers over his legs and is about to pull them over his shoulder when he notices Steve just standing in the doorway.
“What are you doing?” “Danny,” Steve says slowly, like he’s talking to a spooked animal or young child. “Are you sure you want—I mean, I could take the couch or bunk on the floor if you—”
“Steve,” Danny shuts his eyes tight, “So far these have been two of the worst days of my life and that’s saying something with all we’ve gone through, and the next week won’t be any better. What I want is to blissfully avoid at least three hours of this hell and I want you in this bed while I do it.”
He’s fairly certain if he opens his eyes that he would see Steve standing there doe eyed and panicked. He’s right. Steve’s eyes have never been so round—not quite wide with shock but round and big like when Grace was told she’s getting a new bike and didn’t want to be too excited thinking they’d take it back or when Danny got shot on that horrible camping trip but she didn’t want to seem scared—and he keeps squeezing his hand into a fist but his fingers are too sweaty to grip a proper one.
Danny’s throat closes at the sight, his voice dropping just enough with want and desperation. “So you’ve got by the count of three to get in this bed or…” He doesn’t even need to count. Steve gives him a small, smile, just barely lifting the corner of his mouth as he slowly crosses the room and crawls by his knees and hands until he’s lined up with Danny on the bed. It’s too small for two grown men, despite Danny’s smaller size, but once the blankets are draped over both of them and Danny’s freezing toes are tucked under Steve’s leg and his head is resting on Steve’s bent arm and his hair tickles his collar bone, he doesn’t care. This bed could have been the length of the room and Steve would still want them to be in this exact position. He tightens his arms around Danny’s shoulders and waist and kisses his forehead. “Good choice.”
Darlene & Me (& Me) - Q&A with Norwegian photographer Anja Niemi [Part II]
By Matty Williams
How would you describe your style? A crossing between cinema and fashion maybe. What photographers influence you? I like looking at classic fashion photographers like Karen Radkai, Horst, Guy Bourdin and Richard Avedon.
Your work is cinematic. I get vibes of David Lynch. Hitchcock. Film noir Dark humor. Beautiful bizarreness. Sexual tension. Mystery. Are you interested in making a film?I would love to make a film, it´s definitely something I hope I will get the chance to do.
The book is exciting. How did Photographing In Costume come about?
Darlene & Me was my third series shown at The Little Black Gallery, and it felt natural for the three to be bound together in one publication. It was designed by Jason Pearce at Bonfire Creative Intelligence and published by The Little Black Gallery. Are you working on anything new? Hint of what's coming? I have started working on a scripted murder mystery, a visual Nordic Noir!

Darlene & Me (& Me)
Q&A with Norwegian photographer Anja Niemi [Part I]
By Matty Williams
Working as both photographer and model, Anja Niemi has established herself with a stylish and cinematic brand of photography. Her latest series Darlene & Me - at once accessible, playful and slightly dark - has received praise from art circles around the world.
Niemi is represented exclusively by The Little Black Gallery in London. Gallery co-founder and director Guislain Pascal graciously arranged a Q&A with the rising photography star.
What is the story behind Darlene & Me? Darlene & Me started with the content of a suitcase from 1959. The case belonged to a beauty counselor named Darlene and contained make-up samples, brochures and the receipts from her few sales. Most of the case appeared to be untouched, but in August 1960 Darlene sold a jar of Liquid Beauty and one Temptress’s Hairspray, both were to herself. The case left me with a feeling of a woman’s failed attempt at success, and a sense of who got in her way. I started to picture her alone playing it out, being both beauty counselor and costumer and this led me to my fictional version of Darlene and her relationship to herself. The location is perfect. Like it's always been there for the characters. How did you find the house? I spent a long time searching for the perfect place and when I came across the desert house I knew it had to be Darlene´s home. The house was built in the early 1960s as a desert progression house, and in the resent years it has been restored and carefully decorated by Tracey Fischer. The interior was so perfectly done, blending with the landscape outside. I could easily see the visual of the series, lush but at the same time bleak and dry which was perfect for Darlene. I read that you work alone. I get that. Describe a shoot day. Darlene & Me was shot in California so because of the light and heat, I would get up around 5 am and start working. By midday it was so hot it was impossible to work, so I used the early hours and the end of the day for shooting. Well over 40 degrees can be pretty intense when working in a huge wig and costume! I spent large parts of the day doing the same thing over and over again. It´s almost like shooting blindfolded since I´m in front of the camera when the frames go off. It is a little draining at times but I love every minute of it. Were you listening to specific music during this shoot? Could you make a spotify playlist? I don´t have spotify, but some favorites are Susanne Sundfør, Tom Waits and Jun Miyake´s tracks for PINA. You play Creative Director, Photographer, Stylist and Model(s)… Did you all work well together? There were arguments, but most of the time we all got along fine! Do you have a favorite shot in this series? Something that fully captures the concept? I think that "The Garden Hose " wraps it up pretty well. It´s playful and humorous with a slight dark twist. Mistakes or challenges can open new creative opportunities. Did this happen? Yes, I was shooting the swimming pool scene for the story, and had planned for one character to be laying face down in the water and the other to be storming off the scene. Since it´s only me on set I have the camera programmed to shoot on its own for a period of time, so the camera always picks up in between moments as well as what I intend. In editing I found a picture of me climbing out of the pool and it turned out to be a more dynamic image than the one I intended, so that´s the one I used. Never mind the one hundred images of me with my face down in the water! Will we see more of Darlene & Me? A sequel, perhaps? I enjoyed playing her so it did cross my mind, but something led me in another direction for my next series.
