What's so funny?
No warnings only fluff >:} (and Covetess's low self-esteem)
She blinks as the group climbs to their feet, groaning softly, which is what happens when you jump on someone from a fifteen stud drop.
"Why'd you do that?" She rolls over checking them for injuries, she's seen Mafioso do it a few times and her view of human fragility is skewed but she knows they can get hurt with such stunts.
"Shouldn't we be asking you that?"
"We're fine" Caporgime doesn't quite wave her away but the action feels enough like a dismissal to makes her phantom insides twist pathetically.
"No really we are fine" Contractee rushes, he smiles placidly. She's too distracted to notice the way they were positioned to avoid crowding her.
Consigliere's movements are slow and relaxed enough she barely noticed him cup her face to tilt it into the light likely examining the severity of the cracks.
She's surprised she isn't swayed to pull away, and she can't tell if it's because of how Don like the approach was or how causal he was that didn't set off her trigger-happy alarm bells. He lets her go before she can feel bothered.
"Why'd you go about it that way?" She does a half decent job not sounding a cornered deer as she looked over behind them to emphasize her question.
The others turn to stare accusingly at Soldier… At least she thinks Capo is also glaring... with the shades in the way and all..
"I thought it'd be funny" the man wheezes and she tilts her head. "Why would that be funny?" Why do you need to be funny? She didn't understand.
Pure white eyes bore into him, metaphorically of course, her genuine confusion does nothing to nullify the intensity of her gaze.
"Well… we, yes we, were trying to get you to laugh" Soldier admits, rushing like he was being held at gun point (expect under those circumstances he'd probably be calmer).
"You did all of that to make me… laugh?" She blinks again bewildered.
They nodded looking somewhat embarrassed.
"So all that crazy stuff this past week was you all trying to be funny?"
"Mostly Soldier but yeah.. pretty such" she's baffled, that's insane.
The ruckus, the wreckage the near misses to broken bones, the odd phrasings and wordplay that she now understands as jokes that fell flat.
They tried so hard for her and she didn't notice. They put in a effort for her and she didn't care.
Couldn't care.
Because she was emotionless and prioritized logic…
"Geez," she snorts it's an awkward sound, another thing her body's forgotten. "I'm such an idiot" Her voice strains under the weight of emotion she can't place.
She turns to the side it was odd they went out of their way to do all that for something so small… For her.
Has anyone done that before? She can't remember. Hollow echoes escape her like a cough and she's pressing her hands to her mouth to suppress the ghost of a giggle.
Covetess whirls around to out at them with vigor. "You're idiots too" but they can tell she hardly means it because they look like they just won something..
Her eyes land on the Sentenial they crushed and while she doesn't feel as trapped anymore there's a tiny bit of guilt for accidentally siccing the Mob on him.
"We should go see what Mafioso's up to" she doubts he's struggling given his minions presence with her but she can't leave him to have all the fun.
"The Boss has probably cleared everyone by now" They're already moving before she can say anything chattering about who was right and what they're owed.
You know what? They were a funny bunch…
