Check out Mavakes exhibit by Orange Omengan on view at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati. The exhibit documents the life of the 'mavakes', (Ivatan term for women) as they struggle and thrive in the ever changing milieu of Batanes. Shaped by the winds and the waves of the island, these women are photographed by artist-teacher Orange Omengan as they go through their usual island living - making filling and delectable wakay donuts, weaving fibers that come out as intricate vakuls, drinking 'palek' and fishing from the sea like the latter had not been harsh to their people.
