that reblog about tagging and shit...yeah. there's gotta be a sort of middle ground. like SALS & DL;DR for sure! but the issue of kids coming across this stuff is only becoming more common bc parents let their kids wander the internet when the internet used to be only for adults or older teens. so there's gotta be something...i just dont know what it is
i fully agree. on the one hand, people should have that creative outlet, and on the surface proper tagging seems like a perfect solution. then on the other hand, kids are getting more and more proficient in technology and it's just not possible to not give kids access to the internet anymore, and no matter what you do, a kid can come across something that's not meant for them. the trouble is, an older teen will know if something isn't meant for them, but when you're a kid it's a lot harder to realize because how would you know? like personally, i didnt even realize fanbases were a thing when i was ten. i just wondered if someone had compiled a list of warrior cats ships (canon and non canon) so i could judge them, and i stumbled across some sort of smut because i had no clue what the word lemons meant in that context. i'm sure that fic was properly tagged, because it only showed up when i searched lemons. but all the tagging in the world can't stop someone who doesn't know what tags mean.
but then there's still the fact that writing is an amazing outlet for everyone, regardless of what the source media is and who it's targeted towards. i do think proper tagging is incredibly important, but there has to be something better. there has to be some sort of middle ground, but i just can't see it yet
