#MAVgoesZion Part 2: We conquered the treacherous Angels Landing on Day 2 of our Zion trip. Got a late start and had to fight the crowds of Memorial Day Sunday, so our 5mi-total journey took us about 4hrs, including waiting in lines/crowds. Was it worth it? Definitely. Even with the crowds? Yes. Surprisingly, the crowd added an unexpected layer to our summit. We were in it together! A strange camaraderie forms when there’s only a few inches between you, the person in front of/behind you, and the edge of a 1400ft fall to possible death. 😅 If you hike often (I probably go 1-2x/month) and extreme heights won’t faze you (they faze me, but fck it!), you can definitely do this hike. I was surprised by our ability to completely crush this climb. It’s a steep 2+mis of switchbacks to an initial resting point. That’s where the climb to Angels Landing Summit begins. It’s just another 1.1mi roundtrip, but it’s steep and narrow with chains bolted into the mountain to assist and stabilize. Bring water (at least 1L per person). Bring food (bars, fruit, trail mix, etc.). The peak (or the midway point) is a great place to picnic if you bring sandwiches—and you’ll get to bask in the glorious views. I can’t wait to go back and re-experience this with someone who hasn’t (or has already!) visited Zion. Breathtaking is truly an understatement when you feel invincible at the end of this adventure.
