hello, long lost tumblies. it’s been a tough week for all of us, so i come bearing charity and cheer!
going into last year, i set out to be a more charitable person. i would donate to causes when they came out with a shirt i liked, and i would pay that extra dollar towards whatever organization they were supporting at the register when i went food shopping. i bagged up all the clothes i don't wear anymore to give to charity, but they've been sitting in my trunk ever since.
going into this year, i set out to do the same. but with the current depth of our need for coexistence and togetherness becoming more and more real with each passing day, it became more of a NEED and DESIRE to be a more giving person. this isn't a political statement - we just all need each other. not to agree with each other and to love each other, but to at the very least just SUPPORT each other. we all NEED to be more selfless.
my goal this year, now, is to make a sincere and deliberate contribution to a group in need every month.
with just days left in january and regrettably not having been able to march with my fellow woman and woman-lovers last week, i made a small donation to planned parenthood with the hopes that another large opportunity like yesterday's will arise soon.
but in february, i'm so excited that i'll be doing my first polar bear plunge, an annual fundraiser for the make-a-wish foundation with some of my close friends. if you'd care to donate, you can do so here . if you're from the area and would like to join, please let me know!
and i'll take any and all suggestions for ways to continue to give more and where to do so in these following months! maybe some of you will even want to take on this year of charity with me. :)
