JANIE/MAX headcanons in the danete/lawdick crossover
the first night, before anyone realized something was happening between the youngest reddick and the only gibbons daughter, since nothing really was happening yet, max informed his brother’s best friend that “he really liked it here” when she asked, not clarifying why or that he had quite the plan in mind
while dani and pete didn’t really need any other young children running around their house, they were glad to see that none of them were as wild as doug, because it gave them at least a little bit of freedom
originally, everyone hung out in one big group, before the kids split up by gender without really deciding to do so. max wasn’t too happy about this arrangement, but he did figure it gave him more time to sort out his ideas
oliver was the first one to catch on that janie and max had a thing for each other, but he decided to sit back and let it play out rather than attempting to interfere by spreading the news
max didn’t know who to admit his feelings to and get help from since he didn’t want to tell her brothers, but he also didn’t want to tell his brother
since max wasn’t telling anyone, ally got together with oliver, who she thought seemed oddly pensive. the two of them agreed upon their observations and tried to put together a plan to help
when the entire group of children was sitting around getting to know each other, dia and logan were sitting somewhat off to the side, listening but also having their own conversation. when janie and max got up to go look at something, dia turned to her boyfriend with a knowing smile. he completely denied any logic behind her implications, not ready to think of his little brother having a crush on anyone
janie got max to spend more time with her by insisting he help her reach some things in her room that her dad had put away on shelves just too high for her to get
max finally admitted to his siblings that he liked janie after a couple of nights. dia and ally just grinned while logan tried to contain his unfounded surprise
the two kids sat together and talked about their families as a bridge into discussing other things. max thought janie’s siblings sounded like a lot of fun, especially since there was no one younger than he was or his age. janie thought it sounded pretty cool to have a bunch of older siblings to help you out when you needed it. not that she ever needed anyone’s help, of course
all of the parents tried their best not to laugh when max generously offered for janie to try some of his dinner since everyone was eating basically the same thing
they kissed each other in the living room before anyone else got there. neither of them had kissed anyone before
max told his siblings (dia included) all about it in a very dramatic manner on the trip back home
janie didn’t tell anyone, but her siblings and parents didn’t need to be told to figure it out
dani got them to keep in touch with the lawsons and reddicks by sending (and receiving in return) email updates. janie always looked forward to the parts about max
