Worst. Blogger. In the WORLD.
Holy f-balls, people - is it really true that I haven't updated this dang blog since November 2011? Derp.
A lot has happened between now and then. Here's the short summary, along with a promise that I'll be better about updating this blog with my rambling thoughts, etc. --
What Kate Has Been Doing While NOT Blogging:
In late November I took on a full time gig working for a startup company called I Wish Lessons. I'm in charge of their recruiting, staff management and corporate communications (ie: HR & PR). This has kept me stupidly busy, working about 60-80 hours per week. I telecommute, so it's not that bad - I am currently working (theoretically) and doing so in my jammies.
Elliott and I are still plugging away at writing Keep Your Pants On (the geeky dating column for Bleeding Cool) - after a shockingly successful panel at C2E2 in March, El and I have turned this column into a podcast. (You can listen to Episode #0 by clicking HERE.) We have a dedicated Twitter now (@KeepYoPantsOn) and Facebook fan page. You should follow us, our banter is legendary.
I was recently interviewed as a "Kate of Interest" for The Kate Book, a blog dedicated to everything which is Kate. How awesome is that? (Read the interview by clicking HERE.)
I've been on Geek Girl on the Street Reports hiatus (due to crazy work stuff), but am about to send Rich Johnston the first of a new series of columns from me. Let the insanity begin!
I'm still plugging away on my graphic novel, waiting for contract from my mysterious publisher. I have attached an artist to the project (Thom Zahler, woo!) and we're hoping to get the contract stuff sorted out sometime soon so we can begin work on the series in earnest. In the meantime, I've written a pretty coy little FCBD issue titled "Max Tango Canine Private Eye Meets Sherlock Hound." Aren't I a clever girl?
Speaking of new projects: I also started work on an original webcomic titled "Platonic Life Partners" which is going to be illustrated by none other than my darling WonderWomanV2. I don't want to reveal too much of what it's about until such a time as we're ready to launch it, but it's fun...
SPEAKING OF MEG: She's back from France, yay! And, she's camping out with me for much of the summer at Chez Kate. It's like summer camp-meets-the dorms-meets geek girl central. <3
Speaking of Chez Kate: In December I moved into my own apartment, sans roomies - it's AWESOME.
I'm kind of, sort of, trying to date. It's going... eh. Thank goodness I have Manfriend (my FWB for the last half a year or so) hanging around to stroke my ego and other bits. Haaaa! Oh, the irony of the fact that I write a dating advice column and am total and complete shit at actually dating... ! That's a topic for another post, though.
Other than these things, not much going on here... more updates soon, I swear. Hope y'all are groovy!
Kate's nightmares... Crocodiles, SNL and tsunamis - Oh, my!
Didn't sleep so well last night... had this odd mind melting triptych nightmare in three parts...
I was cast on Saturday Night Live... not a nightmare, per se - right? Kate's secret dream is to say "Live from New York it's Saturday night!!!" Haha, just wait a bloody second there - I was cast on SNL and then not allowed to be in the actual show because I wasn't funny enough. I was -instead- part of the "rehearsal cast" who rehearsed sketches when the actual players didn't want to come to rehearsal... In the dream I complained about this to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who had little sympathy for me, and instead told Seth Myers about my bitching and Seth Myers then made fun of me on Weekend Update. *horrified face*
Cut to my apartment - where I was apparently dreaming I was sleeping - and, all the sudden this HUGE ASS WAVE hits my bedroom window. I am confused at this point, as I live in Chicago, which is 4,986.18 miles away from the Pacific Ocean (821 from the Atlantic and 938 from the Gulf of Mexico.) So I settle back in and start to fall asleep again when another HUGE ASS WAVE rolls up, hits my window, breaks it and floods my bedroom (which then turns on its side...) I am then struggling to swim up to my door and open it so I can get out of the room, in the process I drop Max and he sinks to the bottom of my room, I then have to swim back down and pick him up and as he is completely freaked out, he bites my hand, causing me to drop him again. Finally I get him and we get out of the room.
Cut to outside a grocery store - where I have just gone shopping for emergency supplies, as Chicago has been overtaken by huge tsunami waves and we're evacuating. I stopped to get supplies. This kid who I went to high school with (Anthony something, he was a real tool) pulls up in a car and opens the door, releasing a saltwater crocodile. The crocodile starts to attack me and Max (being the very very good boy he is) jumps in the middle to protect me and is growling and barking at the crocodile, who then EATS HIM. As in many of my nightmares which involve death, Max is not actually dead - but trapped inside of the crocodile - I then am screaming trying to get someone to help me get my poor doggie out of the awful giant crocodile... and, go figure, no one would help me.
When I woke up I was crying. Meh. Auspicious start to my Tuesday. What do these nightmares say about me, anyhow? Yeesh.
