placing the bag filled to the brim with white cardboard takeaway boxes upon the kitchen’s countertop, luciano’s eyes glanced over to the mop of brown hair peeping over the back of the couch. an amused smile growing on his lips as he tugged out one of the many pasta boxes, “ good to see that you’re still somewhat alive after friday. ” words were spoken as he absentmindedly grabbed a fork from a draw and weaved his way towards the couch. box held out as his brows raised slightly in question, “ would have thought you’d still be in la, passed out in some hotel room after a full on weekend—not here, sitting in your apartment— never would have thought you’d just played a set at coachella for the first time if i hadn’t known. —————or was one night enough of celebrating, and you are in fact, dead and this is some bloody ghost shit. ”

avi’s not exactly in a hurry but he also doesn’t want to wait for another elevator. there was a time when his penthouse had a private elevator and he’s still feeling the loss. he’s halfway down the hall as the doors begin to shut which, for most people, might encourage at least a halfhearted jog to try and catch it. instead, he shouts a request, “could you hold the door!” knowing that someone had just stepped inside ( though shout might be an overstatement for the lazy way he raises his voice -- to scream would be uncivil ). now, this would definitely be the point where the polite thing to do would be to quicken his pace as the doors are held so that the stranger isn’t awkwardly inconvenienced with their hand held out to trigger the elevator sensors. however, avi’s not feeling particular polite; he’s agitated enough at the prospect of nearly needing the stairs. so he keeps his gait unchanged and slides casually into the elevator at his own languid pace, knowing full well he’s just made someone wait a hair too long. “thanks,” he has the decency to offer his gratitude, turning a warm gaze and a smile onto his unknown counterpart before everything suddenly clicks into place at the sight of him. max. out of all the rundown places to run into his parisian ex boyfriend, avi doesn’t expect to find max here. his mind rushes with fragmented images of legs tangled in bed sheets and the setting european sun dappling bare expanses of skin. whether fortunately or unfortunately for them both, he doesn’t have time to say or do anything more as the elevator doors click firmly into place behind him. “bonjour.”

it was idiotic. all of it. the fact she was even contemplating the idea, the fact she’d lost track of how long she’d been starring at the little mobile icon underneath his name on her phone’s screen and the fact that she’d nearly tapped it 1 times too many. she had no reason to call, not really. she knew that. she knew it didn’t matter how much she wanted to hear his voice on the other end of the phone telling her everything. she’d seen enough on the live stream to get a bit of an inkling into what it may have been like for him, but it wasn’t the same. nothing was the same. a groan left her lips as the edge of her phone inched forwards to rest against her forehead, “ come on. ” a silence fell over her room for a long while before she finally sat up abruptly, fingers brushing loose hair roughly out of her face as a huffed breath escaped her lips. everything within her was telling her no, she’ll regret it—for the exact opposite reason one may regret something usually. but she knew, she knew no matter what, she’d always have some regret within her. “ grow up. just do it. ” and before she could stop herself any longer, her finger tapped against her screen. no going back now.
