How about Bridgette for a redesign? I honestly feel like some kind of blue is a good choice, but something about her actual clothes rubs me the wrong way? When I look as her fashion, I don't necessarily get surfer girl/sporty vibes, you know?
Yeah Bridgette! I think she’s really cute in personality. I actually really like her. I hope I did her justice. I’m kinda back and forth on the outfit but I’ll talk about it!! Anyway!! Under a cut!!
Okay so I actually changed a good few things about Bridgette. Her skin and hair color were actually a kinda big thing because I mean, she spends so much time outside. She’s always in the sun or in the ocean. I figured she’d be major tan and also have some kinda ocean/sun-bleached hair going on. I thought it would bring a more natural vibe to her whole design, especially since she’s such an outspoken nature/outdoorsy girl!
I also majorly changed her body type. I didn’t wanna make her super muscle-y, but I did kinda wanna tone her. I made her arms softer and a little bigger and tried to make her legs more toned too. But I also took off her giant tits and hips. I feel like Bridgette being a little more stocky and flat just kinda fits her? I also think it gives her a younger and more innocent look which I think fits her character a lot more.
Also, hey, I cut her hair. I usually don’t do such wild changes to the hair but I think it really suits her more. Plus I think it’ll look good next to Geoff since I’m thinking of working a ponytail onto him, but we’ll see how that goes! I just think cutting it real short would be something she would do because she doesn’t seem like she really gives a shit about how “pretty” she looks or whatever? It’s more about not having all that hair weight (especially when it’s wet, yikes!) and just getting to feel the ocean breeze through her curls! I still tried to frame her face with the little bits in the front but otherwise I just went straight for some loose, wavy curls. I think it gives her that sense of Cute I was going for too!
I wanted to cover her in bandages because we lowkey see her fuck up and get hurt A Lot in season one, so I think it makes sense. I mean, if you’re gonna get crazy hurt, you’re gonna start carrying around bandages. And then I just put her straight in her surfer outfit. I mean I just think she’d come to the island in that and not some hoodie and board shorts. Why wear board shorts if your beach ware is the fullbody suit anyway? Like come on, that’s not comfy. I think I could’ve given her a different outfit that wasn’t just this, but I just think this works for her. Plus she’s totally the type to wear water shoes and they just Go Together.
So there’s Bridgette! I like her a lot so hopefully you guys are happy with this one!
19. At what point did you realize a cartoon, any cartoon was starting to get bad?
I get to talk about OddParents again! S5 was when the signs were starting to show. The show got much more mean-spirited, the characters were flanderized, and we got such gems such as “It’s A Wishful Life”. Fortunately, it seemed like that was going to be the last season, and Fairy Idol was a nice way to wrap it up (yes, we got two more episodes after that, but Fairy Idol is chronologically the last one of the season). And then we got Poof. Now, I don’t hate Poof with a passion- but the episodes were getting worse at this point. S6 was bad, but at least undid some of S5′s damage. And then S7 was when it really started to devolve into “The Cosmo, Crocker, and Timmy’s Dad Show”.
21. Something you would like to see more than anything in a cartoon.
More positive representation. LGBT representation, positive body diversity, racial diversity…it would be great. And the characters have to be characters- not just there to be a token.
22. What do you feel makes a cartoon forgettable?
Having too many cliched plots, uninteresting characters, and usually a very bland and forgettable art style (usually trying to ride on the coattails of another popular show- remember back in the 2000s when every forgettable cartoon was trying to look like either FOP or PPG?)
And also, forgotten ≠ forgettable. Sometimes things just become forgotten because of how networks and companies treat their shows (Teacher’s Pet because of ABC overhauling the Saturday morning lineup and dumping almost everything on Toon Disney; Phantom Investigators getting subject to the “Girls’ Show Ghetto”). Other things just weren’t that remarkable and are only there to fill a spot on the schedule (Squirrel Boy, Yakkity Yak, etc.)
Hey I just wanted to say I love your fusion fall stuff. It’s all super great! The detail is incredible. I also wanted to ask just curious is if you RP or no?
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoy my work, but I’m not open for RPs. I work on a lot of different projects at once, so I tend to have to keep everything focused to them.
