Just Outside Your Comfort Zone

I feel like I am always just outside a person’s comfort zone.

Like I’m never “in the zone”, you know?

Like a sport’s car going five under

in a school zone.

Like a hail mary pass fumbled

in the endzone.

Like there’s a someone for everyone but I’m

Somewhere in limbo  on the border of the friendzone.

And you’d think, with how many people we’ve crammed

On this planet, surely, someone somewhere would share

Similar comfort coordinates?

Trust me, I’ve marked them,

With push pins and yarn.

Always zeroing in on that comfortable anywhere.

It all starts to feel like a once in the lifetime vacation

and jet lag

And in another timezone.

My love and passions are always treated

Like the highway to the danger zone.

And that sounds badass

Like mind blowing monsters

Right out of the twilight zone.

But being afraid is exactly the same thing as

Being outside of a comfort zone.

All the same, my comfort zone expands like the horizon

A never ending sunrise

On a never ending sea adventure

And every ship that has ever sailed

Marks a new path on my search for buried treasure

For X’s and O’s

For the next hello,

Just outside the comfort zone.

Trying to Forget

I won’t sweep the smashed mirror, it exhausts my eyes,

my hands, filling up on gasoline, to put the car in drive

And I see a flashback in the rear view, nearly going blind,

I’m stuck in reverse, this pyre is a joyride.  

And how much will it cost to stay a night in oblivion?

Scrub me clean, flush and mop the final flames

And how much will it cost to stay a night in bliss?

Should I clean the drain?

Has it slipped the brain?

Could you pardon our house fire?

Who opened the casket, it doesn’t have any doors?

A billion struck matches litter the floor.

Release the emergency brake, shoot the flares of war,

We’re nearing full speed toward the finish line, and it looks to be an eyesore.

And I’m trying to forget, how do you convert to Kelvin?

And I’m trying to forget, Hell will be hotter when we arrive with our sin

And I’m trying to forget, the memories we made were just a flash in the pan.
