You know what bothers me about reading Lumax fanfiction? It's the fact that Dustin always gets over Max really fast. You guys really think that Dustin just... stopped being in love because he saw what a cute couple she and Lucas make? No. Way.
Consider that Max is (as far as we know) Dustin's first love. You don't get over that within a couple days, much less in a few weeks or even months. I can't find it right now, but apparently the script for The Snowball Dance stated that the main reason Dustin cries is that he sees Max and Lucas kissing.
And yet the fandom seems to completely ignore the fact that there is trouble on the horizon. Dustin still loves her, and I firmly believe that he might have a chance with her once he ditches Steve's ridiculously bad dating advice.
What I want to say is: It would be really interesting for someone to explore this potential conflict instead of pretending that there never was any competition between Dustin and Lucas.
