MAY LOVES: WATERCRESS

One of spring’s fresh greens that transitions nicely into summer is Watercress. My love affair with watercress began way back in 2006. I was working in Long Island City and there was an Asian deli in the basement in my office building. There was a watercress, green apple and brie sandwich served on a french baguette. IT WAS AMAZING! Peppery watercress, sweet and sour apple, creamy and earthy brie.  I would suggest you try one! MAY LOVES : MARGARITAS

Super refreshing with lime juice and a touch of orange make this classic margarita a great choice for rising temps. Kept this one classic for ya!

INGREDIENTS :

3 oz tequila [use 100% agave tequila for best taste] 2 oz freshly squeezed lime juice 1 oz agave nectar 1/2 - 1 tsp orange liqueur splash of orange juice salt for rim [optional] Fill cocktail shaker with ice. Add tequila, lime juice, agave, orange liqueur and orange juice. Cover, shake until mixed and chilled. Press rim of chilled glass into salt. Strain the margarita into glass and enjoy!

MAY LOVES: CERAMICS

shopSCAD artist, Melissa Cromwell’s Nicosia collection features the most brilliant turquoise glaze with black and white graphic elements.  Check out this piece, the Ivis Vase in store or online. The Swipe Collection Neck Vase is sticking out just behind as well.

Also at shopSCAD, alumnae, Irene McCullum has her raku fired vases, this one in beautiful deep green and blues is soothing in form and tone. Lily Bay has these cute little crackled pitchers, great in this green and perfect for a tea tray.  The crackled look is something I am drawn to and these matte white little dishes with crackled interiors at Lily Bay caught my eye for a perfect ring dish!

Lily Bay also carries these clean white stoneware pieces and i love the heavy lips on the plates! shopscad alumni Bucky Clarke creates these wonderfully faceted bud vases, available in classic black or white and also ombre effects!

MAY LOVES

May usually blows in with its warm, jasmine scented wind. This year is no different, the temps are rising, the sun is brighter and the jasmine has exploded with its intoxicating fragrance. Other things we love about May:

1. Dipped Pots: It’s easy to give basic terra cotta pots a face lift when you just dip them in paint. We’ll show you all about it in a tutorial next week!

2. Mint: it’s refreshing on fruit, great muddled in drinks and perfect for dressings.

3. Margaritas: It is Cinco de Mayo after all!

4. Wedgewood Blue : a perfect pretty preppy color for sailing months!

5. Fringed Tulips: this variety is unique and special without being too showy.

6. Grounding : its important to feel rooted to the Earth and this month we’ll be sharing lots of ways for you to feel more grounded.

7. Floral Prints: every spring/summer floral prints just FEEL right. We’ll  gather up some of the best found locally to share with you!
