I painted this years ago as a tribute to the students who were shot at Kent State on May 4th, 1970. I titled this, “The Day My Government Wanted to Kill Me”
I remember the day well and how quiet it was in my house. My mother was a graduate of Kent State and she had a sister attending at the time of the shootings. I recall my father saying, “The government wants to kill everyone.”
There is still a large segment of the US population that thinks the killings were justified. But, none of the evidence supports that position. The events of the day were well documented forty years ago. And, the facts are, a military arm of the US government fired, in a planned and unison way, indiscriminately, into an unarmed group of students.
