« La complexité de l’identité multiculturelle, multinationale et multiraciale est au cœur de son travail. Ses peintures mettent en contraste la nostalgie des souvenirs d’enfance et le sentiment sous-jacent d'être un étranger naviguant simultanément dans les communautés japonaise et américaine. Elle met en lumière la découverte de soi à travers la narration et l’investigation de l’altérité qu’elle a ressentie tout au long de sa vie, et l’utilise comme catalyseur pour se reconnecter à son héritage et se réapproprier l’espace qui lui revient. »
