I work in climate change, and while it can be emotionally draining to hear about the consequences, the truth is that we do have the tools to combat it and humans have overcome much greater odds before

No, this makes absolute sense and is actually really vital to apply to different situations outside of tumblr. (Tumblr just seems to magnify this phenomenon)

yeah, exactly. I’m working on this? like, when I get that dissonance that’s like “that doesn’t make any sense” trying to take a step back and be like “okay just because that hasn’t been my experience doesn’t mean it’s not real”

perception is weird and people experience the world in wildly divergent ways

(but yeah I think it’s something about...oh, I was reading about this recently, the idea of context collapse - the loss on social media platforms of a sense of - yeah, context, that helps people navigate interpersonal interactions in meatspace. and that collapse is less present within a group that you know/that knows you (i.e. friends) but as soon as that text reaches a wider audience that falls apart.)

For me, group therapy was helpful in dealing with my relationships with others, but honestly individual therapy was where most of my progress was made. It sounds like you know what you need to continue helping yourself.

I agree. Last semester, I was in group and I was focused on my relationship with my parents, so that was helpful. I just don't think that's where I am right now like in my head. I'm not sure. It's so far into the semester that I might just go with it and try to find an individual therapist after I graduate...but then I'm hopefully going to grad school so idk how that's gonna work out. Ugh.

thank you <3 I was hoping group would help me learn to talk to other people about my problems, but I'm still finding it difficult. Instead of actually using the meetings, I'm hiding what I'm feeling and experiencing, so I feel like I'm wasting my time. I need to be in therapy to stay with my psychiatrist, and I'm not going to just stop going, but I'm not sure if this is actually helping me at all.

You are definitely not being dramatic. You deserve to be happy and comfortable in your house. As long as you are only keeping it to her and are respectful in your requests (which it sounds like you have) you are within your rights.

yeah that's definitely reasonable... at first he wasn't allowed in the apartment either but my roommate asked if he could come sometimes (because they're friends) and I said that was fine as long as they let me know first
