rewatching Philosopher’s Stone after Cursed Child
hey friends - so I know the last time I posted was like... march?? and I said I would probably start posting again after school ended buttttttttt I graduated like 2 weeks ago and haven’t been in classes for about a month and I’m still not interested in blogging sooooooo
I thought I just wasn’t into tumblr because I was really busy, but now that things are not busy I’ve realized I’m just not interested in being here anymore :/
I’m gonna keep this blog up just for archival reasons (I’ve still got some good shit on here lol) but I probably won’t be posting on it again - definitely feel free to unfollow, and if we’re mutuals just send me a message and we can be facebook friends if you want!! also everyone can follow me on twitter if that’s a thing you wanna do (my tweets are protected but if you request to follow me I’ll accept you) - I still update that pretty regularly :)
anyway - hope y’all are doing well!!! best of luck with everything you’ve got ahead of you!!! ♥
peace!!
hello all!!!! I know I haven’t posted in like..... 2 weeks but I’m just letting you know I’m still alive lol just super busy
also I haven’t had time to watch tv or anything so I’m kinda avoiding tumblr because a) I don’t wanna be spoiled and b) seeing gifs of my shows makes me sad because I can’t watch them
soooooooo basically what I’m saying is I’m not sure the next time I’ll be posting but it will probably be a few weeks from now lol (or like.... may)
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I know I haven’t posted in a while but here’s an important update: I’ve been binge-watching house of cards s4 for 9 hours and I’m halfway through my 2nd bottle of red wine, so at least you all know I’m still classy as hell ♥
bonus level of classiness: I’ve been wearing pants for approximately 0 of those 9 hours heyooooooo

List of queer things that are safe to watch
And by safe I mean no one dies and or has a happy/slightly ambiguous ending
Legend of Korra: ok do i even need to explain this one enjoy the korrasami
Debs: this is the lesbian spy gets together with the villain movie you want to watch it’s good it’s gay and no one dies
Person of Interest: i mean who knows when it’s gonna show up again but so far it’s safe
Go On: a show about people in a support group. It’s a comedy, and all the tragedy has happened before the show even started, so the point is that all the main characters have gone through tragedy but like I said, it’s a comedy and funny and has Matthew Perry Laura Benanti and Julie White
Alto (a movie with the description “Two girls. One gun. The Mob. Because coming out to family is hard. But coming out to “family” is funny.” this is the lesbian mafia story you are looking for, which i’ve also made/in the process of making gifs to)
But I’m a Cheerleader: “A naive teenager is sent to rehab camp when her straitlaced parents and friends suspect her of being a lesbian” it has a happy ending I swear
South of Nowhere: An old one, yes, but the main pairing are two queer girls and happy endings (I haven’t seen it all, but you can watch the first two episodes here)
Girltrash: ok i honestly I don’t know too much about this one but I’m 90% sure it ends in happiness this is the lesbian rocker movie
Carol: “Harold they’re lesbians”
anyone wanna add anything?
Girltrash is literally the best it’s got awesome music and the girl gets the girl in the end.
That’s a really fucking short list :(
Imagine me and you
Call the midwife: to some extent (season 4 onwards with a few little bumps in the middle but who knows, that might change after the ep on Sunday)
Show Me Love/Fucking Åmål (I haven’t seen it but I know it has an awkward teenage lesbian and a happy ending) The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls In Love Bound (if you’re ok with NSFW things and sillyness this might work for you they ride off into the sunset together) If it’s ok to recommend songs/music videos ; Jenny (the Lily Sevin version is sad but the original fills me with hope.It makes me think maybe someday I can get the girl and transform into a tiger ) Girls Like Girls
someone also suggested in the comments Steven Universe
ok so i’m gonna add some things that people have added
Pride (2014): “ if people are looking for something happy/uplifting to watch. It’s actually a biopic about the group of gays and lesbians who supported the coal miners during the strike in the UK in the 80’s. There’s some sadness because aids and it’s 80’s so some queer bashing and stuff, but it really is an uplifting movie. Especially in terms of acceptance and hope for the future. Also, cool history stuff. :D“ (via @gladiatorofturtles)
Imagine Me and You: this is the one with Lena Headey and Piper Perabo with the “are you gay” “ecstatic” and they end up together and ride into the sunset
I Can’t Think Straight: ok I don’t know about much about this one but i know it ends happy and i want to watch it
Saving Face: “It’s amazing. It has like 95% POC cast and it has a happy ending. Not only that - but my personal favourite - it has family acceptance. Wil’s homophobic mother comes around in the end - it’s incredibly moving. It’s hopeful, you know?” i got this description on anon and i’m now adding it
Don’t quote me on this but I THINK Penny Dreadful might be ok? Same with Bomb Girls (except I don’t know for sure at all so more research is needed). Also maybe Mr. Robot. MAYBE. IDK but that’s the one with Rami Malek and I know there’s queer characters but I’m not sure if it’s safe or not need confirmation
Son of Batman: ok this is a cartoon movie in a series of them (this is also part of the Young Justice world I’m like 90% sure) and there are canon queer women (yay batwoman!) and Netflix is thinking about renewing it for season 3 and if you know about Young Justice you’ll know that it was cancelled because so many girls watched it like the only tragedy is that it was cancelled (BUT hey if more people watch it might get renewed-also on Netflix)
I mean if you want to stop after like season 3 there’s The Good Wife but yes stop after season 3 (well. Kalinda does not Die. Is mistreated and mangled after like season 5 but she Does Not Die.)
There’s also How To Get Away With Murder: if you haven’t heard of Annalise and her Murder Ducklings it has several queer characters, including the lead character who’s a bisexual woman of color.
I mean if you want to go through kind of hell there’s Glee (too bad it ended after season 3 but at least they confirmed in the future brittany and santana would get married if it continued that was nice of them) and Lost Girl
also if you want to deal with subtext kind of there’s season 2 of Legend of the Seeker (seriously just watch the pilot and then ignore the rest of season 1) but Kahlan and Cara (played by Bridget Regan and Tabarett Bethell) have chemistry up the wazoo Cara is confirmed as bi. It was cancelled after season 2. No one dies (it only counts if it lasts longer than an episode)
there’s also the well known Xena on netflix if you want to watch that
Ok I’m gonna also add books i know because this is Safer since it’s already finished and you know the ending and all the kinds of queer media with happy endings are Good
The Gone series by Michael Grant is a YA book series (total guilty pleasure of mine) where all the gay/lesbian characters survive to the end despite the massive death toll of the series - spoilers: all the people who died were straight people. So if you like teenagers in apocalyptic situations and gay people not dying this one is a must! (via @marthagreyjoy)
The Dark Wife by Sarah Diemer: this is your gay Persephone and Hades au that you’ve always wanted trust me it’s an A+ also 4.99
Beanstalk by E Jade Lomax: aka @ink-splotch on here (seriously read some of the things written over there about susan pevensie or harry potter you will feel things)first of all, there’s 2 out of 3 books currently out. Second, they’re all free. It’s one of the best series I’ve ever read I love it so fucking much it’s my favorite it’s fantasy/fiction and just written So Well here’s the description:
“Jack Farris doesn’t want to save the world, just every person he knows, encounters, or hears of.It’s a bit of an issue.S. Grey doesn’t want to save anyone but himself. He wants to know everything and majoring in sagework at the Academy is the best way to do that. Laney Jones left her home to avoid the constraints there, only to find different barriers holding her back at the Academy. Eager to learn, to excel, to escape, she has far from given up. Rupert Willington Jons Hammerfeld the Seventh would just like everything to be orderly, thank you very much, but it seems the only way to make monsters and myths (and malicious but mundane men) to stop rampaging through his world is to go out and do some hero-ing himself. They are put together as an unwilling study group, but they become something more.“ i love this series so much it’s so good AND it’s free trust me read this you wont be disappointed i swear
Tamora Pierce Books-not so much the first series, BUT there is very good representation in Circle of Magic series . Not so much in the first 4 books, because they’re like 11 and romance isn’t really talked about at all in those but yes like they’re pretty much all queer (2 lesbians, one pan, one ace, one aro, one poly, combined with having lots of POC trust me this is a Good Series. the first ones are more children’s books, with the latter becoming more young adult (kind of think how the 5th harry potter book is much darker than the 1st)
“There are four main characters, a white girl who has power to control and and bespell textiles, a black lesbian who can shape and enchant metal, a fat girl very easily interpreted as asexual who can control weather and cause natural disasters, and a possibly aromantic boy of color who can talk to plants. Their mentors include two queer women in a relationship and a black man. The entire series revolves around their friendship and supporting and drawing strength from each other. Along with this are very strong feminist themes, and not that exclusively white woman feminism, like real anti-racism, anti-classism, and sexual liberation stuff, along with storylines about honoring your culture while breaking away from what is traditionally accepted, anti-war sentiments and dealing with grief and PTSD.” (via @professorsparklepants)
Ash by Melinda Lo: this is the gay Cinderella story you’ve been waiting to read
Also she wrote Huntress, the prequel to Ash, and Adaptation, completely unrelated but i’ve heard good things
The Heralds by Mercedes Lackey: ok this is like an intensely long series of series like there’s so many books and it’s fantasy yes so the majority of them are about the Heralds-people who are chosen by creatures who pretty much look like horses, but are sentient and have different abilities, and when they choose their companion their companion gets abilities and then after going through training they have to deal with a bunch of Shit That Goes Down
Young Wizards: Ok you can buy all 9 books for $20 I haven’t read these in a long time but I want to reread them BUT I’ve heard very good things and there are Aliens and Magic and Wizards and this is the kind of alien books where there’s multiple genders and completely different cultures because hey that’s what happens when a different sentient species develops unrelated to the human race they’re gonna be different. Also I’ve heard there’s lots of queer characters and POC and autistic characters and they’ve been posted from the 80′s and are still being posted
The Posterchildren: ok this is another i want to read it’s about queer superheroes it’s 5$ and then each subsequent short story is 1$
Fingersmith by Sarah Waters: “No one and nothing is as it seems in this Dickensian novel of thrills and reversals. Sue Trinder is an orphan, left as an infant in the care of Mrs. Sucksby, a “baby farmer.” Mrs. Sucksby’s household also hosts a transient family of petty thieves–fingersmiths–for whom this house in the heart of a mean London slum is home. One day, the most beloved thief of all arrives–Gentleman, an elegant con man, who carries with him an enticing proposition for Sue: If she wins a position as the maid to Maud Lilly, a naïve gentlewoman, and aids Gentleman in her seduction, they all will share in Maud’s vast inheritance. With dreams of paying back the kindness of her adopted family, Sue agrees to the plan. Once in, however, Sue begins to regret her decision“
it’s also gay woohoo. I’ve never read it but I’ve heard good things.
The Price of Salt: Ok this is the book Carol is based off enjoy the gay
The Gymnast: I’m told it’s an indie movie, bUT it has a happy ending!
ok, for a longer list of lgbt books there’s a giant list here and if you want a place to buy these books in paperback, there’s a website called Thriftbooks that lets you buy a lot of used books for really really cheap and free shipping and i might add more later but for now here’s some
Chiming in to add a few that I can think off the top of my head. Let me know if you disagree with any of these, and if I can think of any more, I will add.
FILMS:
Bloomington
For all your Professor/Student needs WITHOUT the discomfort of the student being underage, and also importantly, as the younger character is an accomplished actress before she becomes a student, there isn’t as much of a power imbalance in this relationship. (It makes it a lot easier to enjoy the film.)
Nina’s Heavenly Delights
I dare you to not smile like a god damned loon at this adorable film. I Daaaaare you. Stars Shelley Conn and Laura Fraser. (this is in my top five feel good films) Also excellent in that it has a diverse cast and also excellent in accents. [swoon]
Also: WATCH I CAN’T THINK STRAIGHT.
Seriously, guys. Waaaatch it. You want a film that is easy to love, has amazing chemistry between the leads, features a diverse cast, and has a very, very happy ending? This is your film. Lisa Ray and Sheetal Sheth also act in The World Unseen together, which I can’t comment on as I am still saving that film for when I need a good queer film to just enjoy.
And Then Came Lola
The style of this film might take some getting used to, but the actresses all have a lot of chemistry and this film is actually really amusing. Lola is a total disaster of a human being (but she is trying extremely hard) and fans of queer film might recognise a few familiar faces like Jill Bennet. The trailer looks a little rough, but from what I remember, the film isn’t nearly as so. If you can get your hands on it, give it a watch because at the very end of the day: no one dies, there’s a lot of unabashed romance between the leads and it might be a popcorn kind of film, but it’s a popcorn kind of film with gay women in mind.
Bitchslap
Okay, truthfully: this film is crass, violent, kind of explicit about a lot of things, but the three main characters all survive, including the two in what I am going to loosely term a ‘relationship.’ But: this film reminds me a lot of a Tarantino film, and it’s probably really problematic and stuff, but if you want to see Julia Voth, Erin Cummings, and America Olivo being unrepentant badasses, talking shit, kicking obscene amounts of ass, swearing up a blue streak, and a kind of graphic sex scene, this might be your film.
And did I mention a lot of the people behind Xena and Hercules were involved in this? You will see: Lucy Lawless, Renee O’Connor, Zoe Bell, Kevin Sorbo, and Michael Hurst appear.
I suppose you could call this the bastard love child of a Tarantino and Bay (because explosions) but with female main characters who all survive and basically kick everyone’s ass. It’s been a while since I last watched it, but I don’t think it’s horrific. It’s trash, it is total trash, but it also knows it and it is not trying to be anything but. It is gratuitous, exploitive (or a homage to the genre), and utterly shameless and no doubt offensive to most people. It’s also, I think, not common that something like this is made without having a dudebro sweep in and save the day or shit. It is very hard to describe. It is either a love or hate film, but Hel, Camero, and Trixie all survive and in this kind of film, that’s not the norm, so I think it is worth mentioning.
BOOKS:
Jacqueline Carey’s Santa Olivia and Saint’s Astray are very worth reading, especially because both characters as far as I can interpret are bisexual. The first book features their relationship and is an important aspect, but this book is about Loup and definitely appears to be more of a boxing story. It’s branded as ‘lesbian werewolf superhero’ which is really the most misleading description ever. This is a book about family, both found and raised family. It is about righting wrongs and finding your place.
The second is an utterly shameless happy romp that honestly reads like it’s a fanfiction sequel. And I mean that in the best way possible. It is indulgent happiness and fluff and exploring the girls as they explore the world being really fucking awesome. I still have to finish the second, but feel confident enough to recommend both.
One Foot Onto the Ice -Kiki Archer
Okay, honestly, I stumbled across this, thought it sounded a lot like multiple fanfics I’d seen, and didn’t expect a lot, but the reviews said it was funny, it wasn’t expensive and I thought it was worth a shot.
I accidentally read it in one sitting. I went to read the first few paragraphs to find out if I would like the style, and the next thing I knew, it was 3am and I was almost finished. I had to be up at six or seven, and I woke my brother up downstairs by howling with laughter, so I finished it and finally passed out at about 4am. This book struck me as very funny because oh my fucking god, the characters are disasters and it is tropey as hell and again: fanfiction. But it was a delight, and I kind of feel like I shouldn’t’ve enjoyed it as much as I did, but fuck that noise, it made me laugh, it kept me up all night, that means it gets recommended. You may not enjoy her style, but if you can pick it up for cheap, it could be worth reading. There is a sequel and if I remember, I enjoyed it, though I don’t think it made me laugh as hard
The Dar and Kerry Series -Melissa Good
The best part about this series, is the link will take you to the online version that is free to read. The books are also in print (you can find them on Amazon with most in ebooks, or through other services/the publisher), if you want this nice, long series on your bookshelf. There are differences between the two versions, and some of the online versions will feature conflicts of information (Dar’s boss name switches I think between book 3 and 4 as the author changed it in the published version) and I think there’s at least one or two scenes that happen very different between the books to the online versions.
This series was started in the late 90′s and might feel a little dated at times, however I 100% recommend them. (I recently fell back into a spiral of reading the first five or six -this time published versions- and ugh. I still love these idiot characters.) The characters are IT professionals and this comes into play a lot with the story, however, as the author lives in that world, she writes it exceptionally well. But better: she never leaves her audience behind. No matter how thoroughly she delves into something (whether it’s coding, network architecture, or scuba diving) you can tell the writer loves the subjects, she manages to bring you along the entire way.
Also: It features a relationship that begins as a Boss/Employee relationship that is always very mindful about the issues of power imbalance, independence, and impropriety. This book remains aware of the issues this relationship presents and deals with them accordingly, while also always paying mindful attention to both characters and their plights. I can’t recommend this one enough.
Uh…If I can add one I would reccomend April’s shower which is a film about two friends. One is marrying to a guy and the other is basically hosting her wedding shower. Later on the viewer is told that the two of them were lovers in the university and that they still have feelings for each other. I PROMISE YOU ALL THAT THIS NOT ONLY ENDS WELL BUT HAS A WEDDING IN IT.
I saved every letter you wrote me From the moment I read them I knew you were mine You said you were mine
I thought you were mine
Casual sex is a terrifying concept
formal sex 100% everyone’s wearing suits and sending faxes to corporate
I just realized I haven’t told you guys about how 3rd President of the United States Thomas Jefferson haunts my dorm room.
Okay so basically at the beginning of the year, weird shit began happening in our dorm room, me and my roommate would hear/see things, TVs and phones and computers would start on there own and do other weird things.
We decided jokingly that the room was haunted and named the ghost Jeff and even made it a door tag.
Me and my roommate began to notice a trend it the activity of “Jeff” He always seemed to act up most when I talked shit about Thomas Jefferson or James Madison’s personality/policies/etc.
We began to joke that it was Thomas Jefferson or James Madison (hell we even joked it might be Dolley)
Well the other day, our ghost confirmed himself as “Thomas Jefferson.”
After a particularly rude attack on Thomas Jefferson character (I claimed the best thing he ever did was die.) A fucking giant ass jumbo size box of Mac and Cheese fell off of the tallest shelf in our dorm room.
I’m talking one of these babies but it’s like a 20 pack. To me it’s obviously that this is obviously proof that “inventor” of mac and cheese, 3rd President of the United States who was born and died in Virginia travelled to Upstate New York in an area he never even came close to in his life to haunt my dorm
My roommate is not convinced though: She still thinks it could be James Madison.
But a Madison-sized ghost couldn’t have reached the mac and cheese (We conducted an experiment to see if Madison would have been able to reach it when he was only 5′4″ and being 5′4″, I couldn’t even reach it jumping up and down.)
So yes, me and my roommate have proved undeniable that Thomas Jefferson haunts our dorm room.
Also she pointed out that we randomly named the ghost “Jeff” which is pretty fucking close to Jefferson. Coincidence? OBVIOUSLY NOT.
“But a Madison-sized ghost couldn’t have reached the mac and cheese”
I’m so glad I was alive to see this sentence written.
