The soothing gentle touch of his hands as he began to embrace her sent a shiver up her spine. The mere few moments that the two have managed to be alone were few and far between for the two young lovers. Never before had the two been in such a tight quarters when they’ve encountered each other. Previously always being under the watchful eye of the mademoiselle’s chaperones for fear of a loss of virtue, the young man draws the lady in closer into his arms. All the things that have been drilled into the young lady’s mind and manner since her early days about keeping herself proper, and to be mind of her reputation. What would her tutors say now? All the scolding that she endured as a child when she would choose to disappear and watch the boys play with their wooden swords in the neighbouring fields.
As his lips drew closer to her own, her hands pressed against his chest. She noted the firmness of his body under his delicate silk vest. Disbelief coursed through every part of her being. If anyone were to ever find out about even this small encounter, she would be ruined.
A ruin that she would almost welcome if only meant to share this moment with her Sébastien, the boy that she watched ever so intently as a child play in the field with her brother. The same boy that launched her into a severe fit of hysterics when he was sent away for training to follow in his father’s footsteps of Naval Captain, now he holds her has if she were the most precious thing he could ever possess.
As the young lady gave in to his embrace, she tilted her head back and exhaled her last breath before his lips graced her own, gently as first as if to simply test the waters. Giving her a prime opportunity to push the boy away, refuse his advance and any further courtship of the girl. Or perhaps, it’s a moment to savour that their relationship had begun to change. As she enjoyed the moment of tenderness between herself and her Sébastien, the lady slowly glided her hands from his chest to around his neck, pulling him in closer to herself and deepening their kiss. Her breath pushed so hard against her silk stomacher, she thought the pins would pop out.
With the kiss returned to him, the boy pulled away from the lady for fear that he would not be able to stop and he cared much too dearly to allow her reputation any more harm than what may have already been caused this evening.
“Mon Cherie,” he said holding her at arm’s length, “There is nothing more than I would love to spend more time this evening with you, I fear that if we do not reappear to the soiree…” before he could finish his statement, the look of disappointment on the face of his lover tore at his heart.
“Yes, my reputation with be ruined.” She finished with a frown as she pulled away from him further. The dim light of the small sitting room allowed her to hide some of her sadness as she turned away from Sébastien that their moment had ended.
“You needn’t worry Mademoiselle Beaumont,” Sébastien said as he pulled her back into his chest, “this will not be the only moment that we’ll share.” The grin on his face couldn’t be covered by the candle light, he was far too happy in this moment. “I can promise you that.” He finished before once again placing his lips on hers for a blissful but short kiss before he dashed from the room in fear of the two getting caught together alone. Leaving his object of adoration to pine for the love of the man that she desired more than anything but feared would destroy her.
