Heroism - Prologue
“Sir, this is no laughing matter.”
The woman pursed her lips after every word. Her eye twitched repeatedly while speaking to the younger man. He ignored her and continue to scoffed down another burger. “Sir, pay attention! This is for your child’s safety!”
He glanced up from his meal, his eyes lazily focusing on the tighty wound woman.
“Yeah, listen lady” he said between fries, “there really ain’t nothing to worry about.” He drunk the cola from his cup intill he was sucking air through the straw.
“My wife is gone. My son is too. I ain’t got no other kid and I ain’t gonna have one.” He gestured to the small girl playing in the corner. Her dark skin was covered in shades of rainbow from her paint-by-numbers kit. “She is fine, ya here?”
The woman looked back and forth, unsure of what to say. After what felt like minutes, she finally replied.
“That may be true, sir. But, the Madame has never been wrong on a prediction before! If she says something you need to take it to heart!” she stopped, catching her train of thought, “I implored you! Please do something!”
“That’s it! Get out! I ain’t got any other kids!”
“Please I-”
He stood up from the table, spilling fries to the floor. The father began to reach for his trusty gun as he grew desperate to get the woman out of his home. She noticed his actions however, and began to make her way to the exit. As he slammed the door behind her, the little girl caught the sad, distraught look in her eyes.
Her father didn’t have any more children though. After the incident, it was just him and her. Still, the woman’s words scared her, even if they couldn’t come true. The Madame says your other child will kill your daughter Maymi and yourself. Not possible, Maymi knew that. She knew for certain her brother was dead after all, but she still remained bother by it. It caused her distress, though she didn’t know way.
It wasn’t intill late that night, covered by the darkness, that she awoke screaming with realization. Her father used to donate sperm.
Not Like You
I'm not like you, Memay. I don't need fancy hair, a beautiful voice, Or unique little gimmicks. I don't need to act out. To be known. To feel special. Everyone knows who I am. I don't need to act special. I'm already am.
Unaddressed Letter Found In Empty Apartment
Last winter...you remember that?
It was when I learned about war.
When I lost my love, my beauty,
My everything.
How could you leave me on this cruel world?
Not to worry.
I haven't forgotten.
So I will be coming back.
I have new friends for you to meet.
