can we get much higher?

six years ago, today, a piece of art was released to the public and shifted the stars. that art was illustrated by kanye west. the illustration was none other than, ‘my beautiful dark twisted fantasy.’

mbdtf to me, at least, is nothing less than a masterpiece. easily the best album this decade has ever seen and one of the best albums of ALL TIME regardless of genre. it’s so fucking beautiful.

it’s significant to me because it’s what served as the catalyst for me in terms of looking at music very deeply. i began to look at music very differently.

i feel, in my opinion, that, music should make you feel. it should make you feel a real emotion. that’s what good music is and does. that’s what ‘twisted fantasy’ does. my favorite song ever created stems from that album - ‘runaway.’ to this day, six years later, i still cry hearing it. it’s a reminder of how delicate we really are as human beings and how mistake-prone we are in relationships. i can go on countless hours on what that song means to me.

another reason why i love the album is the quality. i feel guilty because i was exposed to this album at a young age and i feel every song that ever comes out should be judged against this album. i know that’s unfair, but what i’m trying to convey is, by the sound of that album, it sounds like they really took their time in the studio to craft this sound. they made sure every aspect of every song is only perfect. when i think of this album, immediately, i classify is as: perfection. i feel like music to this day, should be held accountable like that. i can’t stand songs that sound like they were made in five minutes. i just can’t. breaks my heart.

i just hope i can create something in my life that comes close to this level.

on a different note, the man responsible for this classic, is in current need of our help and prayers. despite all the controversy and headlines he stirs up as it pertains to canceling shows, ranting to audiences, he’s still my idol and i will always look up to him. he saved my life. i just pray he gets all the help he can before he returns to do anything. he’s human like the rest of us. we all praying for you mr. west, get well soon.
