Homesick
Pairing: Adam ‘Ad-Rock’ Horovitz x Female Reader.
Adam had been unusually quiet since their show at Riverside Contraplex, Louisiana. They were due to play at UTC Arena, Tennessee in three days time so the boys decided they deserved a good night sleep outside of the cramped tour bus bunkers.
Adam had his head rested against the window of the bus, staring out at the vast highways as you made your way down the U.S. 65. You hadn’t heard a word from him since you had left Louisiana which was odd, especially for Adam.
As the Beastie Boy’s Tour Bus pulled into the Hotel Parking Lot, you and MCA were situated in the lounge area playing Hang Man to pass the time. You had lost every single round as Yauch was a god at choosing words no one else on the planet knew. Mike was up with the driver, desperate to stretch his legs.
As Yauch and Mike hopped down the steps, heading towards the Hotel Foyer to check the group into their respective rooms, you gently laid a hand on Adam’s shoulder to gain his attention. “Ad? Baby?” You question as he barely acknowledges your presence. You gently sit down next to him and place a hand on his cheek to turn him to look in your direction. He finally blinks at you, rubbing his eyes as he apologised quietly and stood. You frown as he begins to exit the bus.
You sigh quietly, not knowing what was bothering him. You grabbed your rucksack and followed him into the Hotel Foyer. Mike hands you a key to yours and Adam’s room, and you gingerly guide Adam towards the elevator. Yauch gives Adam a concerned look as you shrug and mouth an ‘I don’t know’ towards him.
You and Adam enter your room to find a king bed, a definite upgrade from the tour bus which you had been sleeping on for the past two weeks. You set your bag down as you turn back to Adam, who is resembling a lost puppy. You rub his arms as you ask if he is okay. He croaks out a half hearted yes as if he’s fighting back tears.
“Come on, it’s late” you guide him towards the bed. You untuck the sheet from the bed as he almost falls onto the plush pillows. Once you’re ready for bed, you hop in next to him as he places his head on your chest breathing in deeply. You stroke your fingers through his hair, pressing a kiss to his head as your hear a few quiet snores escape his mouth. Tiredness overcomes you as you close your eyes, slowly drifting off.
You awake suddenly at the coldness surrounding your body. You feel around the bed for Adam, panicking as you find it empty. You check the bathroom, the panic in your chest growing as he’s no where to be seen. You try calling Yauch and Mike’s room on the provided telephone but it rings and rings with no answer. You guessed they were passed out with no chance of being awoken.
You pulled on your Adidas Campus and shoved on a jacket as you noticed that Adam’s were missing from the room. You furrowed your brows as confusion swept your face.
Where could he have possibly gone?
As your descended in the elevator, your mind ran through all the possibilities of where he could be.
Maybe he’s gone for a smoke?
Maybe he was cold and went to grab a hoodie from the bus?
Maybe he just needed some fresh air?
You walked up to the 24/7 Hotel Reception, as you asked the woman at the counter if she had seen someone of Adam’s description. She pointed towards the Tour Bus parked a few feet away from the Hotel. You thanked her as you made your way towards the bus. You could make out a faint light coming from inside as you tried the door. It was unlocked.
“Adam. Are you in here baby?” You whispered as you made your way into the bus. You could make out a few sniffles as you headed towards his designated bed. The curtains were drawn as you gingerly stepped towards them, slowly drawing them back to find Adam curled into a ball. The sight made your heart drop, as you bent down to your knees.
“Baby…what’s wrong?” You stroked his hair as his sobbing became more intense. The shaking increased as he tried to choke out words. You tried to manoeuvre his body so he could sit up. This ended up with you both on the floor of the tour bus, Adam grabbing at your shirt as he clung to your body. You wrapped your arms around at him tightly, concern sweeping over you.
“Ad…Adam. Has something happened? Talk to me baby?” You pushed his hair out of his face as you tried to look at him. His breathing was rapid, as he cried out. “It’s too much. I can’t do it anymore” he pressed his forehead into your shoulder. “Do what baby? Do what?” You lifted his head to look you in the eye. His eyes were read and puffy as you pressed a kiss to his forehead.
“Everything! Touring…Being on this fucking bus is driving me crazy! Being away from NY for this long! I cant do it!” He raised his voice as he threw his head back with frustration. The tears seemed to be reignited as he finally let go of what had been bothering him.
He collapsed back into your arms as his tears soaked your jacket. You grabbed him tightly as you whispered sweet nothings into his ears. “Look at me.” Your voice was soft as he looked up at you. “You have to breathe baby. In and out. Do it with me.” You breathed in and out slowly, rubbing Adam’s arm as he copied your breathing. You sat there for 15 minutes as you worked on calming him down from his panic attack.
“I’m sorry. I should have told you where I was going.” Adam cleared his throat as his sobbing quietened. “Don’t apologise Ad.” You pressed a soft kiss to his lips then to his cheek as you pulled him close. “Why didn’t you tell me you were feeling this way?” He sighed into your hair as he lifted his arms to wrap around you. You were still both splayed on the floor in the cramped corridor of the bus. “I don’t know…I guess I felt pathetic. The boys seem fine. I didn’t want to be the only one.” He nuzzled his face into your neck. “Adam, there is nothing wrong with being homesick. We’ve all felt that way at some point.”
You stood up, holding your hand out to him as he looked up at you with his big reddened eyes. As he stood you pulled him into a tight hug, standing on your tip toes to wrap your arms around his neck.
“I love you baby.” He whispered into your hair, body moulding into yours. You smiled as you guided him out of the bus and back to your room. “I love you more, but we’re not missing out on a night in an actual bed.” You winked at him as he chuckled.
Adam smiled at your intertwined hands as you stared at each other in the dimly lit hotel hallway. As it turned out, that was exactly what he needed. His home, you.
