As MCC Pride 26 draws near, I’ve seen several takes about how ‘straight creators shouldn’t be allowed’ or ‘I didn’t think the straights were allowed in and that this was just for the gays’ or ‘I see that X creator is participating so that must mean they aren’t straight and therefore they must be Z sexuality and just hasn’t made the announcement yet’ and these takes are pissing me off!
JUST because your favorite streamer participates in a MCC Pride does not necessarily mean they are gay. If they have not stated their sexuality or identity anywhere DO NOT SPECTATE ABOUT IT! They may be content creators and may be on a pedestal in your mind, but they are PEOPLE FIRST!
Rant about what MCC Pride is and why straight creators have always been a part of it below
MCC Pride has always been a charity drive for different Pride organizations. There’s also Pride themed customizations for the players and the maps have been reskinned to different Pride flags. It has never been an event marketed as ‘just for the gays’ instead it has always been marketed as a fun event to raise money for the LGBTQIA+ community.
MCC Pride ever since it started in 2020 (MCC 6) has always had straight creators participate. Being part of the LGBTQIA+ community is NOT a requirement for MCC Pride BUT being part of the community does give a higher standing for a creator to participate.
The straight creators that participate in MCC Pride are allies of the community that are there to support their friends as well as bring in more viewers to donate as many of the creators part of the community are smaller creators. Some have even been on record mentioning that they have told Scott they will not participate if it means they take the spot over someone in the community who wishes to play. Grian is an example of this, who after participating this upcoming weekend will have been in 5/7 Pride MCCs.
As the years have gone and MCC alongside MCC Pride has gotten more popular the ratio of gay to straight creators has drastically changed for more and more gay creators to come in and play while not having as many of the larger straight allies in to help bring in donors. And that is what it should be, the gays should outnumber the straights in a Pride specific event, BUT that doesn’t mean it will be fully the gays. For one, there aren’t that many gay content creators who have come out who also play minecraft who also wish to play in MCC. That’s just the plain truth about the community, there are only so many members that overlap into all of the boxes to be able to participate in a Pride MCC.
MCC Pride is for the gays, but it’s more than just for the gays, it’s for the larger LGBTQIA+ community. And that community does include the straight allies that support it.
I mentioned it above, but I’m reiterating it, DO NOT SPECULATE ABOUT A PERSONS SEXUALITY OR IDENTITY JUST BECAUSE THEY PARTICIPATE IN A PRIDE MCC! They are people to and deserve their privacy. They do not owe you anything just because they create content on the internet. Speculating about creators private lives does not bring you anything besides those creators to start having resentment to their own community.
Hell Joel and Pearl are examples of creators who had to COME OUT AS STRAIGHT because people kept pushing and even after that people still try and push on them. Look outside of the mcyt sphere and I’ll use Dan and Phil as examples of creators who people pushed so hard at that they left the internet for several years. SPECULATING ABOUT PEOPLES LIVES NEVER BRINGS ANY GOOD ONLY HARM!
