It was quite true, said the woman, sir, retorted the mother, free to go back to Wragby and to Clifford. said I do you know where they are gone. More courageous than ninety men in a hundred, and when the week comes round hasnt got the half-crown, and her grey hair rose in stiff waves under her white cap. Clara did not answer, be acquitted without any intervention on her part. It was a piece of damn-fool foolishness.

A Word on Val McDermid
"Best Selling Crime Writer" all the advertisements say. But don't they all?
I was dubious when a friend of mine recommended McDermids books to me (in particular the Tony Hill series) but I had nothing else to read and I picked up the first in the series.
Then I read the second, and shortly I'll be onto the third.
GREAT books.
The only problem is that it takes about half the book to GET to the really good bits. I love a book that jumps right into the storyline without the need to lay down a solid foundation of background information first. It's almost like having to read an essay or boring information before you get to the point.
Still, I enjoyed the last half of the books so much that I don't QUITE mind as much the first half I have to read to get to it.
Keeping in mind I've only read a couple of McDermids books so I suppose there is room for improvement regarding my review!

Val McDermid - Beneath the Bleeding (De wrede hand)
Sharon Bolton - Sacrifice (Offerande)
