In a perfect world, he would have flown to Montreal from Melbourne to attend his son’s mother’s convocation and be proud of what I have achieved. That I was able to complete my program even though I was pregnant and gave birth halfway through it. In a perfect world, he would still be in the picture supporting me and not causing stess through a very difficult and sensitive time. But it’s not a perfect world and I had to go to my doctor’s appointments during the day on my own and attend classes at night. I gave birth a whole month earlier than my actual due date and had to miss half of my winter semester as I had to stay home with my newborn. I also had to fly back weekly to Montreal to attend one class in the summer and leave Myles in Calgary. In a perfect world, the person I love/d would share this moment with our son as we both strive to create a perfect life and future for him. And though, it isn’t a perfect world, that doesn’t mean that I was completely alone in this journey. I had my family who lent me money to cover some of my flight costs in the summer and took care of Myles, my dear classmates/friends who were in the delivery room with me as we completed our uni assessment while I was giving birth, my friends from far away who never failed to send me messages of support, @julia.purich ‘s family who welcomed me in their home during the summer, and Myles who definitely made this year more challenging, crazier, and more fun. I cried today because I thought to myself, I got this diploma even in a tough situation and he doesn’t even care. Who cares if it was a McGill diploma, who cares if I did it while I was pregnant/had a baby, who cares if people think I was strong, he surely didn’t care. But then I realized, that even though I still love him, this achievement isn’t for him. This is for me. This is for Myles. And this is for everyone who helped me get here. This is something I should be proud of. And yes, it’s not a perfect world, but what I had to go through to get here made this achievement a little sweeter. | #charot #andamingsinabiperototoo #mcgillgrad (at Place-des-Arts) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4OLSX9BvD46m8VPbaQX0q6xmTOD1r3xk5RCl00/?igshid=1tanmf4l9r4qn
