McDonald Creek Trail - McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, CO
From our campsite, we looked down into this canyon - we decided to hike along the rim of the canyon from our campsite to the trailhead today. Great views as we hiked along the edge of the canyon.

Into the canyon we go!
Slowly making our way downward toward the Colorado River.

The skies were so blue against the striped canyon walls.
The trail was a bit overgrown in spots, we spooked an owl out of a tree in this section. We followed his flight to a landing spot high on the canyon walls.
A great horned owl - he was keeping an eye on us. We were sorry that we had disturbed him, but it was cool to see him.

Further down the canyon we wandered.
Almost to the river - it was definitely a worthwhile journey!
Made it to the river, just in time for a couple of trains to go by - they were close!

On our way back, we decided to climb out of the canyon - it took us a couple of tries, but we finally found a path up the wall that was safe enough for us to complete. Whew! Great hike!
The views this evening from our campsite were worthy of National Geographic - just incredible!
