Marina T.S. Eliot & McKnight Kauffer The 3 colour lithograph for Eliot's poem for no 29 of the Ariel Poems. The Ariel Poems were published by Faber between 1927-31. Commissioned by Richard de la Mere, and printed at Curwen, for whom Harold Curwen recommended many of the illustrators. Pochoir McKnight Kauffer The art of pochoir briefly flowered at the Curwen Press and these pages are from McKnight Kauffer’s illustrations for Elsie and the Child. They were hand printed by the women at the press, layering colours through stencils, a labour intensive and expensive process. I’m posting these in part as I’m about to send a new pochoir book off to be printed, with the most gorgeous work by Mick Manning, who has pochoired the most stunning large format alphabet book of the wild animals and beasts of the North.
