mcmacmack trio
going to miss this trio🥲
i hate to say it but i had a feeling Canada would lose after seeing how much they struggled in the elimination rounds. it’s crazy how they went from dominating in the round robins to eeking out wins. for a second there I thought they would end up with no medal at all! do you have a theory about why they struggled so much in the elimination rounds?
i think just like with the women's team, loosing their captain rattled them.
With the temporary loss of MPP it had an even bigger effect cause the team was so fully built and developed around her for such a long time. they compleyely crashed out in the first game without her, did a little bit better in the second and then visibly improved once she was back.
i do think it was the better choice for sid to be prudent and to not play on the injured knee, because i'm still worried what playing on her knee for 3 games is going to mean for MPP ngl, she looked like she was in a lot of pain and really feavoured one leg, and i'm guessing she was loaded up with pain killers in order to play. so i'm very glad sid decided to sit it out.
but the team was rattled after that for sure, and i do think it lead to some mistakes. i also wouldn't be surprised if natemack got more injured than he let on from that one big hit, but he continued to play anyways.
aside from that, for a team as stacked as team canada was they really struggled to find chemistry outside of the mythical mcmacmack line, and of course their goalkeeping struggled a bit as well (fleury was sorely missed)
mcmacmack line my darlings, i will be thinking about them forever and ever

mack did more than he has to in this olympics as a 19 years old, but he did panic a bit and rush some shots during the game.
and, team canada should have developed another scoring line centering mackinnon but they didn’t and they just relied on one line to score and putting them on the ice too much. it’s on jon cooper.
yeah... they definitely relied on the mcmacmack line too much, even though they had such a star studded roster, which is so disappointing...
cooper is supposed to be one of the best coaches, how did he fall into this trap
