“I had a nightmare about you and I just wanted to make sure you’re okay.” Meghan and Zach

“Meghan...Meghan will you turn that off!”
A sleepy groan left Meghan’s lips and her arms flailed out in front of her as she was viciously attacked by a pillow “Huh?” was all she could manage as she peeled her eyes open to see Dan standing over her.
“Your phone hasn’t stopped ringing for the past hour Meghan will you please answer it?” he asked as he dropped the offending phone beside her and Alana’s tousled head popped up from where she’d set up a bed at the bottom of Meghan’s.
“It’s stopped now,” she said as her eyes closed once more “It’ll be fi-” she was cut off by her own ringtone and Dan hitting her with his pillow once more “Okay!” she exclaimed with a huff as she clambered to her feet, tripping over Dan’s camp bed as she made her way out of the room.
“‘llo?”
“Meghan, Megs...are you okay?”
Even through her immense tiredness she couldn’t help but smile at the sound of Zach’s voice. Leaning with her back against the wall in the hallway of the cabin they were staying at she reached up to push her hair from her face “All good for three in the morning,” she said, her eyes squinting as she took a second to consult the bright screen for the time “Are you?”
“I, uhm,” he paused and let out a cough to clear his throat “It doesn’t matter.”
Her eyes narrowed as she slid down the wall and sat with her knees hugged to her chest “Are you sure?” she asked as she picked at the edges of her pyjama shorts “Because you don’t usually ring me at three am and I didn’t think you’d use your yearly ‘Megs’ allowance so carelessly?”
Zach chuckled softly and Meghan could practically see him run his hand down his face as he let out a sigh “I just...you can’t rip me for how lame this is okay?” he insisted before he continued slowly “I...I had a nightmare about you and I just wanted to make sure you’re okay.”
Her lips pursed together as she tried to contain her grin. It had only been six months since they had left the island and started up their long distance relationship and she still wasn’t used to him being so sweet “Well I’m fine I promise,” she reassured him wishing she was with him in that moment rather than staying away with her friends.
She knew there would be an element of worry around the trip, staying in a cabin in the middle of the woods after the events of Jurassic World was bound to stir up some memories...only she definitely expected it to be her mom fussing not Zach.
“What happened to Dream Meghan?”
Her question was met with silence for a few seconds and part of her wondered whether he had fallen asleep “It was...” he began, sounding hesitant “Just a repeat of what happened only I wasn’t there. I couldn’t help I...I just got a call after...”
She took in a deep breath at the mention of what had happened on the island. It had been a struggle for her to get herself motivated to even pack for their trip, a trip which had been planned for well over a year, so she knew exactly where he was coming from “There are no dinosaurs here,” she said in a soft tone as her eyes wandered to the window across the way “I checked. Double checked. Before we arrived.”
He let out another slight chuckle at her promise “Yeah i guess we’re well out of there huh?” he said almost as though he was reassuring himself “I should, I should let you get some sleep. Tell Dan and Alana I said hi and sorry for waking them up.”
“They understand,” she answered as she stretched her legs up so she was standing “You tell Gray we’re still on for our FaceTime after dinner tomorrow. I might even have a chat with you as well.”
“I’m honoured,” he said before letting out a yawn “G’night Meghan.”
She smiled as she held the phone even closer to the side of her face, tilting her head and taking in a deep breath “Good night Zach.”
Zach’s eyes narrowed as he turned from the jeep to where Meghan was standing behind him, her arms tightly folded over her chest “If you want to take a look be my guest,” he said stepping aside and gesturing to the open bonnet.
Instead of saying the snarky comment he was expecting Meghan pursed her lips and tightened her arms around herself “No, no it’s okay,” she said with a shake of her head.
Frowning to himself he turned back “I thought you were looking after Gray.”
“He’s having a look around, I can still see him,” she answered glancing around and spotting the youngest in the group picking some binoculars up off a shelf not too far away “I think this is the old park.”
“Huh?”
“The-the old park?” she repeated “This place tried to open before, years ago, but it didn’t go to plan on the trial. People...people died.”
Noting the slight shake in her tone Zach glanced over his shoulder just in time to see a tear escape her eye and trail down her cheek “Hey,” he said straightening up as she quickly reached up to wipe it away.
“Stop it I’m fine,” she said waving him away as her breath hitched in her throat.
A half smile came to his face as he reached out to place his hand on her shoulder. He raised his eyebrows and ducked his head slightly as his eyes searched hers. She had been the strong one this entire time, calming both him and Gray down when they had their panicky moments, but it was only a matter of time before the reality of the situation hit her.
The sound of a loud roar echoing in the distance made her jump and on instinct she reached out to grasp hold of his jacket “I don’t want to die,” she said in a whisper as a few more tears escaped down her cheekbones “I can’t die Zach my, my mom I can’t leave her on her own and my brother? You don’t know him Zach but he’s useless I ca-I can’t...”
Not sure what else to do Zach wrapped his arms around her just in time for her to let out a sob “Hey, hey, it’s going to be alright,” he said quietly, holding her tightly against him and leaning down so his cheek pressed against hers.
“I’m just not ready to die.”
Shaking his head he pulled back away from her and cradled her face in his hands, wiping her tears away with his thumbs he sent her a smile “We are not going to die,” he said in an insistent tone “Do you think I’m gonna let you die? I’m going to get you and Gray out of here I promise.”
Nodding her head Meghan took in a deep and shaking breath as she calmed herself down. Her eyes flickered up to his and she managed a smile back, suddenly very aware of the fact that his hands were resting on her hips.
“Meg look!”
Zach took a step away from her at the sound of his brother’s shout, Meghan reaching up and wiping her eyes properly before she called back that she’d be with him in a second.
“Hey,” she said reaching out quickly to grab his hand before he turned back to fixing the jeep, hopping up onto her tiptoes she pressed a quick kiss against his cheekbone “Thanks Zach.”
“I won’t let anyone hurt you, you’re safe with me.” I am SWOONING Meghan and Zach pls
Her chest burned, her legs ached…but she kept running. Branches scratched at her arms as she batted them out of her way, her hair almost ripped out as it became entangled in the jungle around her.
The pounding of footsteps kept her going. She could see the front door of her apartment if she could just reach it, her arms stretched out in front of her as strong jaws snapped together…
A gasp passed through Meghan’s lips as she sat bolt up right in bed. Pressing her hand against her chest she closed her eyes and took in a deep breath.
She wasn’t back in the overgrowth of the Jurassic World park, she wasn’t being chased by the Indominous Rex…she was home. Her hair was tangled because she had been thrashing around not running through branches.
Slipping out from beneath the quilt she grasped hold of the cup sitting on her bedside table and headed out of the bedroom and into the kitchen. Opening up the refrigerator she took in another deep breath as the freezing temperature cooled her down before she reached for a bottle of water.
“Hey, you okay?”
Zach’s deep voice was slow and tired as she made her way back into the bedroom. He was reaching up and rubbing at his eyes, the quilt pooling down at his waist as he shuffled into a sitting position.
“Sorry, did I wake you?” Meghan asked in a whisper before she sipped at her water “I just needed a drink.”
Arching his eyebrows Zach watched as she placed her cup back in its spot on her bedside table and climbed back into her spot beside him. Opening up his arms he hugged her tightly before he lay the both of them down gently “Sure you’re okay?” he asked knowing she had dodged his first question.
“Uh-huh,” she answered as she lay her head on his bare chest. Her arms wrapped around him and she hugged him tightly “Do you think we’ll be okay here?”
He knew she had been struggling. Ever since they had watched the news, seen that the dinosaurs brought over from the island had escaped, she had been quiet. He hadn’t want to push her, didn’t want her to think he was fussing over her but he had made sure to keep his eye on her.
“Listen,” he said as he shuffled away and cradled her face in his hands “Not only are we in a whole different country now but you’re with me. I won’t let anyone hurt you, you’re safe with me.”
Nodding her head Meghan smiled, looking to him from beneath her eyelashes “Thanks Zach,” she said before stretching up to press a kiss against his lips “I love you.”
Settling down he wrapped his arms tightly around her. His fingertips tracing comforting patterns on her skin as her breathing settled “Love you too,” he whispered against her hair as his eyes wandered to the window and he hoped he was right.
“It’s cold, you should take my jacket.” Meghan and Zach
He smiled down to her as they wandered into the holding area. Reaching down he took her hand in his, lacing their fingers and squeezing hers tightly “All good?”
“I am now,” Meghan answered as she swung their hands slightly between them. Ahead of them Gray was walking alongside Claire, her arm around him as she held him close to her side.
A smile of relief came to her face when she noticed the two in front of them had managed to secure them a space on one of the benches. Sitting down she leaned over to rest her head on Zach’s shoulder.
“Here,” he said when he noticed her shiver slightly “You’re cold, you should take my jacket.”
She went to argue but found she was just too exhausted. Allowing him to fuss over her and help pull his jacket on she smiled up to him “Thank you,” she said in a whisper “For everything.”
Zach smiled back as he reached up to wipe a bit of dirt off her face “No thank you,” he answered as he brushed her hair from her face. There was a small cut running along her forehead and he made a mental note to get her to seek medical attention as soon as someone was free.
Glancing around over dramatically and making her giggle he ducked his head and pressed a quick, slightly awkward, kiss to her lips. She sighed happily as he leaned her forehead gently against hers.
“Oh god,” the sound of Claire’s voice mixed in with the tapping on Zach’s shoulder from Gray caught their attention and they both straightened up “It’s your parents.”
Zach winced as both him and Meghan shuffled apart “I’d just like to apologise in advance,” he said with a roll of his eyes.
“I’m sure they’re fine,” she replied with a shrug of her shoulders. Ice cold fear filling up her stomach as she glanced up to see, behind Zach’s parents, Lowery was making his way over “Okay…my turn to apologise. My brother’s here.”
