it was too early in the morning to be awake –– to be that motivated and cheerful as her other co-workers. her head was throbbing from the amount of alcohol she consumed last night and she needed caffeine in her system as soon as possible, or else today wouldn’t go as simple as planned. she didn’t intend on coming to work hungover, or even at all –– but someone needed an emergency consult and it had her name written all over it. ❝ I feel like crap. remind me to never drink again. ❞

“I know, I know I’m way behind on my charting.” Shannon said with a laugh, the huge stack of charts because her that needed filled and signed, well, it had been a ridiculously busy day. The kinda busy where she hadn’t stopped in 12 hours, hadn’t eaten, hadn’t even had a bathroom break. That was what you got when you were an ED doctor, working for free to finish work you should have managed to get to on shift, but didn’t, “this one…” she thumbed through her finished pile, “is for you.” Shannon whipped it out from the stack, handing it over. “Fourteen year old girl verses SUV, she’s got a pretty nasty face injury, figured you could have a look at it? Probably needs some reconstructive work, also just a heads up, the kids pretty distraught about the whole thing, tread lightly.” Which teenage girl wouldn’t be at the prospect of a giant scar across their face?
