   “nice try,” a hum in the others direction as she glanced down at her paper work. she had so much to fill out, more nuero cases than even she could handle it seemed. it’d been a long andtoo stressful day,  and she couldn’t help but sigh at the blondes words. “get an intern to hook you up to some fluids or medicine. it’s probably a hangover from joe’s last night or you’ve got a headache from a stressful day.” shoulders lifted before she finally glanced to give the blonde a smile.  “i promise, you’re all good. for a doctor though.. you’re super paranoid.”

      when she had gone in search of her girlfriend, arizona was feeling iffy then. her whole body was aching, she felt pins and needles and everything else in between, even her head felt like a hammer or something was being taken at it, but with more searing sharpe pains. “ames I don’t think this is that.” the blonde murmured softly as she moved her hand to hold onto the desk but the pain she was feeling caused the blonde to hit the ground with a thud. she didn’t lose her balance though, or her hand slipping...she just, well, lost something and hit the floor instead with a gasp.

‘You can’t cheat grief,’ Nicky had said, back in the drugs cabinet. Brook accepted it at the time, maybe because the rational side of her brain convinced her the junkie would know more about the subject than she did; maybe because she was just too damn tired to argue. Either way, it was easier to cope (if you could call it that) with grief during a riot, especially when surrounded by the other girls, who were hurting just as much as she was.

Four days of watching white walls later, cuffed to a hospital bed, however? That was hell. Without the adrenaline that’d kept her going during the rebellion, now there was no escape from the familiar pain that crept into her every waking moment, the acute twists in her heart every time her mind wandered to her memories of the past few months; the despair of loving someone you’ll never get back.

Who cared about an ex-junkie advice? She’d cheat that feeling till the end of her days.

“Please, just...” Brook insisted, rubbing her forehead. “A sedative, a... a sleeping pill, antidepressants,” her fingers tapped anxiously, it would only be a moment before the CO who watched her came back “anything. I just need to stop thinking.”

“i don’t know, honey. i’m not sure, its really unfair, i’m so sorry this keeps happening to you, sweet girl.” it’s hard for the soft pet names not to fall. difficult not to tug the blonde up and close to her skin, hold her tightly until she feels better.  if she could stay here, if they could be there in this bubble.. it’d be easy. if she didn’t have to home to owen, she’d do anything to make the woman feel better, but instead she continues the action of fingers running through hair. sadness settles in the pit of  her stomach and she shakes her head, tears burning her eyes. i’m in love with you, arizona, but she can’t say it. instead she swallows the lump in her throat and exhales, “lets go lay down, okay? somewhere more comfortable.”

          “ everything i touch falls to shit, ”   she mumbles, doesn’t linger over the kiss, ignores it, doesn’t focus on the way it makes her feel — safe. for the first time in years, for the first time since she’d left this life, left amelia behind.   “ fine. okay. yeah. ”  voice still rough, she doesn’t care as she pushes herself up, wincing at the way her prosthetic digs in, but doesn’t comment on it. it takes a moment, a few stumbling steps, before she catches herself, makes her way slowly down the hall, amelia following close behind her. not caring much that she’s not alone, arizona quickly sits, changes out the shirt she’s wearing for a much comfier sweater, and lays back. it’s still not that comfortable, but it’s better than the couch,   “ thank you. ”

     “i told you to leave it alone.” to say that meredith was in a mood would be an understatement. the look on her face was enough to let anyone know that talking to her now would only ruin their day as well. “my private life is no longer up for discussion unless i bring it up. got it?”
