MCtober Week 4: Willow Abbott's Patronus, Happiest Memory, & Boggart
Defence Against the Dark Arts was the class Willow struggled with most. When she was old enough to begin the Mythos, Arts, and Magical Expression track at Nivalis School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, she was relieved because it meant she would never have to take DADA again!
With that said, Willow did not actually struggle to conjure a Patronus. She has no shortage of happy memories. The one that came to mind as one of her happiest memories involved her younger sister, Hazel. There is a large age gap - eight years - between them. After an entire childhood of longing, Willow was so excited to finally have a sibling. Shortly after she turned one year old, Hazel began to walk and, what's more, she took her first steps towards Willow! This was the memory that filled her mind as she called out, "Expecto Patronum!" And right before her eyes, a silvery tonkinese cat appeared.
According to @the-patronus-librarian, "A tonkinese cat patronus is produced by inquisitive witches and wizards. This patronus belongs to those who are willing to take chances in order to learn and appease their curiosity, and they have plenty of it. They are highly observant and constantly looking to mentally challenge themselves. These individuals love to know everything they can about a person. They always seem to forget about personal space, but they always have good intentions. These witches and wizards are the type to seek out when you need some help with that essay you’ve been struggling with or tutoring with that one subject you just can’t seem to get a grasp of. They are wonderful teachers and are always happy to help."
I also read that tonkinese cat patronuses can represent a creative, playful, witty, affectionate, loyal, and emotionally intelligent person.
Dealing with a Boggart, however, was not as simple. Willow failed the Boggart unit, initially, and was forced to attend tutoring. It wasn't that Willow couldn't memorize facts about Boggarts - the problem was in practice. Whenever Willow faced a Boggart, it turned into her parents, Alder and Joyce. They seemed upset, and it began with the two of them yelling at her and then more quietly speaking about how Willow had disappointed them. The screaming made her freeze like a deer in headlights. Willow hates conflict and does not deal with it well, and her family is both her strength and weakness. When she was finally able to cast Riddikulus, her parents were suddenly wearing ice cream cone costumes, just like mascots, dancing crazily!
