Sif is ready to die because Asgard is very into dying honorably. Very deathcult-ish! But Thor tells her to live instead of prioritizing immortalization in tales of battle (Character Development!!). So if Asgard is a theocratic monarchy (I saw this in a comicbook graphic), that adds an interesting layer to this... Does it mean Thor's friends worship him? (they're not mortal in the sense of humans as the movie shows they're much stronger and can jump very high). Because they kinda do in the movie... They never question him and are ready to get him back before he ever undergoes character development.
That means whatever family dynamics the royal family has were projected onto the entire realm? Is that why they're so suspicious of Loki even before they have proof of anything? Is Loki the "bad" deity to them this early on? They discuss whether he would be up to things before they have any evidence and argue over whether his domain of mischief would include treason and such.
I think the movie shows evidence of clear preferential treatment of Thor in that childhood flashback. If I interpret it as Odin-friendly as possible, it comes off as Odin not being able to correct child Thor's enthusiasm for battle at the expense of Loki's identity. And saying he didn't want to reveal things is a cop out. There are ways he could have done so without revealing it to either Loki or just the rest of Asgard. He just didn't care or want to.
