Month 2 Journey to Mastery
When I started my coursework in the Public Relations Masters program at Full Sail University, I knew that it was an accelerated course but I had absolutely no idea what was in store. To be honest I felt like I was going to be a pro at understanding the online platform and keeping a systematic routine. I had this experience before with my Entertainment Business Degree. Needless to say, reality kicked in as I approached the first week of the 2nd month course Public Relations in a Digital World. During the first week I learned of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. This gave me insight to how to appeal to the public’s intellect. The most intriguing assignment was to analyze a case study of successful brands. It was an eye opener to see how these brands used their influences. Especially now that I was aware of how they influenced me and valued the brand.
As stated before, I argue that I am extremely creative however, I am not the most technical or digital person. Apparently, the professor did not care and assigned several assignments that stretched those technical skills. I thought that I would have to use my camera later on in the program. Never did I think it would be in the second month. This challenging experience required me to create a PSA video. Surprisingly I completed the assignment and received an excellent score. Furthermore, this was the tip of the iceberg. The assignment afterwards pushed me to another level forcing me to create a professional PR website. Just know this was not what I planned. I guess my expectation of the course besides noticing its name was that I was going to learn of the modern day public relation techniques not to operate them. Since this course I no longer feel intimidated on learning more technical skills. Now I am excited to what the rest of the program entails.
