The US state I live in is one of the states that has pledged to Medicaid (low income health insurance) cuts. In my state when applying to Medicaid you are given an option of four separate insurers, MDWise (the best one), Anthem (It's okay I guess), Caresource (Almost no one is in network for this), and MHS (its useless)
Well the republican governor of Indiana has decided that in order to cut the cost of Medicaid it would break contract early with MDWise and force all MDWise patients to switch over to another insurance within a month.
If they fail to switch, they'll simply just no longer be a medicaid patient.
MDWise costs the state 300 million USD last year, and was the most successful in improving patient healthcare experience. Since the state cut the contract early, the state now owes the company MDWise 313 million USD. Yes that's right, the state owes MDWise money, and broke their contract early, effectively costing more to discontinue business with them than provide low income healthcare to Hoosiers.
I'm a MDWise patient, because my two physical chronic disabilities have effectively made it more difficult to get hired within the current American job market.
