Did I somehow end up with very strong opinions about the relationship? Also yes??
Maybe (probably) I'm just too old for teen drama conflicts but like? Are we supposed to consider a crush and a couple of months of long distance to be the same as an years long effectively part-time cohabitation relationship? That went through (even if we dont see it on screen, but we can assume support is implied) life altering injuries, building a life from scratch after high school (formative!) And family co-mingling??
Most of the issues the characters have with jeremiah and isabel are tied to them being kids really, especially privileged kids who never before had to choose between a trip and a job or settle for a shitty appartament or simply had to split up a group/couple because not everybody could go on the trip.
Of course, no one should get married to prove that they can grow past that, but they are just being dumb kids! And pretty much any other flaw (break time cheating escluded it's a drama trope so who cares) hinted at for jeremiah is either normal character arc stuff (inferiority complex) or extremely American vague puritanism (oh he flirts oh he drinks, what did you say? He partook in the lettuce??)
Idk just let kids grow past the "you HAVE to be with your first love" mindset, you can grow, you can experience more, meet new interesting people! You don't have to settle for inconstant and broody (nor cheery tbh). Work-stress induced rant over, I just miss when shows had at least one well developed relationship to root for now it's just drama while all the bonding happened off screen lmao
