Hearthstone go go go
I’d like to start by quickly mentioning that I am going to try and take this whole thing a bit more seriously, and try and review my content a bit better - my previous pieces have been relatively lackadaisical, and I’m basically just throwing out my thoughts at the moment, and I hope they stick. I’ll try and do reviews of things going on at the moment, card reviews, any decks I come up with - anything Hearthstone! I might throw in some extra stuff like reviews I did with the Guitar Hero ones. On with the article today!
So today I’d like to chat about a couple of things, mainly about my Free To Play series that should be coming up, and also specific card I’ve been trying today. I realised today that if I was gonna do a mid range Mage something like this…
which is a rough draft, but is reasonably close to what I would aim for - some tweaks here and there of course. You’ll see Wild Pyromancer is an odd pick and worth a go, as are Sunfury Protector and Argent Commander, but I’m figuring it out as I go. Suggestions are welcome!
I realised today that if the mid range style didn’t work out, I could easily just try the Mech Mage as it’s relatively cheap, as displayed here…
which is on a free to play model. Much more aggressive, and this would be if I really wanted just to go for it towards the end and get a couple of extra ranks. You’ll notice it has… 4 rares? So it’s SUPER cheap to make, and the only improvements would be legendaries such an Archmage Antonidus and Dr. Boom. Other “free” cards to consider would be Clockwork Gnome or Flamecannon. Again, more testing.
Those are things I’m considering for my Free To Play series, I am heavily favouring Mage at the moment, and will almost definitely go Mage. The only thing I considered was if I got an Ancient Of Lore in a pack, I would go Druid, or Preperation for Rogue, but it will probably be Mage.
So as I mentioned, I wanted to test out a new card, specifically for Mech decks, so I chucked it in Mage, and then my idea for changing my Free To Play deck halfway came through. This is the deck I was going with for a while…
and as you can see, it has two new cards. More noticably, it’s much more slow than normal Mech Mage, but is still capable of going very fast. I had a good time with it, not completely rushing people down. I was running Ethereal Conjorer, as you can see, as well as Forgotten Torch (this version has fireballs instead), to give them a go, and found them both very good in slower games. I’ll keep testing them both, they certainly encourages that slower play, which I enjoy. I’ll talk about it more in depth another time
The other card in there in Gorillabot A-3, which is what I want to quickly mention, as you can see here…
and it’s certainly very interesting. Obviously I was trying the other two cards, but it was mainly for this. I think it has the potential to be AMAZING. Curiously enough, you can directly compare it to Tomb Spider, which is literally the Beast version of this card, except it has one less health, and goes off without previous conditions. Seemingly, Blizzard values Mechs a LOT more than Beasts.
I found that the battlecry went off EVERY time for me, with the heavy amount of mechs in my deck, very much like Goblin Blastmage, so that’s very consistent. Generally a “mech” is worth from about 3 to 4 mana, and of course you can pick the mech, so as the Discover mechanic does, it’s very flexible. It’s just not QUITE strong enough to me, and I can’t put my finger on it. I guess it’s not overpowered so it’s not viable, but I still really like the card. I also found that it being a mech is super relevant, to both Mechwarper and the blastmage, so that helps even more.
The ability and strength of the card aside, the art is AWESOME, I love it, as well as the flavour text “A-1 and A-2 went nuts, when they should have gone bolts”. It’s very easy to go easy on things like that, but Blizzard really nails things like this (Should this section reviewing the softer part of the game? Let me know!)
So yeah, this is the first of newer articles, where I take things a bit more seriously (I’m about to read through it, even!). Hopefully anyone who read this enjoyed it, I found it very enjoyable to write, fingers crossed, I guess!
