Better to make a little joke out of it so she doesn’t feel buried alive. It’s strange, to start to live with a thing and then have that thing completely turned around. “Want a Warhead?”

     “we got plenty of mechanics, yeah.” there was a time in his life when he would’ve been uncomfortable in a room full of geniuses. back in his circus days, he would’ve hated a room like this. found it pretentious as hell. these days? there’s a few geniuses who are some of his favorite people. “but i heard through the grapevine that you’re the best. and yeah, if you help me, shield’s gonna get involved, you’re gonna have to sign a few things, but ... y’know, saving the world! yada yada.”

“But we already did go somewhere. We all left.” He walked out and they all followed him, and he still can’t believe it. They all left, and now he doesn’t have a home anymore. None of them do. There’s still sand on his pants, and he’s lonely, and afraid. But he’s always afraid. And right now there is anger overshadowing that fear, and somehow that’s worse. 

“How can I go back? You heard what Walter said. That’s what he thinks of me, Happy. That’s what he thinks of me and Megan. I thought maybe it was just my anxiety telling me everything would fail, but it wasn’t. Cabe was wrong. Flo doesn’t like me, and Walter thinks I’m just some - some - how could I push him like that? I disappointed Cabe. That’s two for two on fathers.” 

He hasn’t even hugged her back. 

“And now you and Toby don’t have jobs, and that’s my fault, because I couldn’t help myself and I pushed Walter.”
