" he found it funny. the reasons as to why don't seem to actually exist ( and he certainly wouldn't be amused if henry had cracked jokes at evan's death; why should he find it funny that william doesn't seem to care about charlie? ) but despite the lack of reasoning, william met his former friend's harsh eyes with the emptiness of his own, lips pulling upwards until they're plastered in a twisted expression. there's nothing to be thrilled about here, yet william couldn’t bring himself to wipe the smile from the mask he chose to wear. perhaps it was to hide the side of him that wanted to feel guilty. he'd never let himself know for sure.

" if you have anything else to say to me, then what say you we sit and talk it out like adults, hm? can you do that for me? " his arms open outward to his sides as if to encourage a response, regardless of if it was verbal or physical, civil or furious. had william not sent the both of them spiraling, then in another life, the same action could've been him inviting henry in for a friendly hug. he'd never tasted a thought more bittersweet than that.
