@watermechweek - Day 7 ((the SFW ONLY parts))
“The five times Robert tried to keep it platonic and the One time he didn’t”
Of course there's more rambling under the cut about these for any unfortunate soul that actually reads more.
"Oh?" she asked lifting her brows and dropping her hands to his shoulders. "Well it's not the technology, the people are pretty sucky, the music's good, movies are better," she said thoughtfully as she nodded, "Women are hotter," she grinned. "Is it the women?"
Steve shook his head. “People aren’t “sucky” no more or less than they used to be. They might be a bit.. disconnected but then maybe they’re just connected in different ways? When I was a kid, having a penpal overseas was a pretty big deal, you know.” he chuckled. He ignores the comment about women. He doesn’t see it.
"The food" he grins, giving her an easy answer. "I’ve never tried so much new stuff before coming here."
(Kiss Me You Idiot meme) "Just do it, it'll be fun. New," she shrugged. "Come on just a kiss."
Steve chuckled. “I have kissed before, you know.” he shook his head slightly. “I’m just failing to see how it solves our current crisis.”
Tony watched him curiously before gently pushing him back so she could stand straight again. "Well, you could go home with any 'dame' you wanted," she said nodding her head. "Not that you'd know what to do with them," she giggled.
Steve stepped back, rubbing the back of his neck. “Not back then I couldn’t” he chuckled, shaking away the brief melancholy. “I didn’t mind much, though.” he shrugged. “I wasn’t thinking much about dames back then.” he admitted.
She laughed softly as he spun her and then pulled her close. She looked up at him and let her hand gently slide down his arm to his elbow. "Oh? And how did those go Captain Charming?" she asked with a bright smile.
Steve chuckled at the question. “They weren’t all spectacular failures. Though mostly I was just there for Bucky, same as she’d be there for her pal.” he chuckled before dropping her in a small dip. “There was one time, he left the dance with both dames. I never quite figured out how he managed that.” his eyes get a kind of faraway look, like they often do when he’s thinking about his old friend. He misses him.
"I have a doctorate in hypocrisy," Tony murmured as she sipped her whiskey, letting the liquid fire soothe her. She lowered her eyes and tilted her head before forcing a smile. "/My/ fears? I have no fears, I face death on a daily basis, what have I to fear?" she asked looking back at Loki, feigning her cocky bravery.
"Only the foolish or the naive fear nothing, Stark. And I think that you are neither." Hands abandoning his drink to splay on the bar, he leaned closer, his gaze hooded, disbelieving when it lifted to meet hers. "Will you then seek to mislead falsehood's namesake? I can taste the evasion as if from your lips, tell me-"
Falling silent, he shook his head, grudging respect for her audacity simmering low, restlessly stirring where it had no invitation, and his voice was almost gentle when he spoke again. "Tell me of your dreams. And your nightmares. Some thread of logic ties them, ties us, if only I could find it."
Tony smiled warmly and took his hand, playfully rolling her eyes. "Stop calling me ma'am, I'm not that old," she teased letting him pull her into a dance. "I've um never danced to jazz before," she confessed looking down at their feet, afraid she'd step on him.
Steve chuckled. “It’s not about age, it’s about respect.” he moved her arm to rest on his shoulder. “That’s alright, just follow my lead and you’ll be fine.” he gave her a little twirl and pulled her back. “I’ve had a fair bit of practice - Bucky was always dragging me out on double dates” he chuckled.
