For my new TTRPG Tales From The Core, a mech game in which customization is its key feature, I have come up with some sicknesses your Pilot may have if their starting HP is low enough. One of these is Corneal Telepathatis, and it is based on this post about what happens when you look an Enderman in the eyes.
The idea is that when your pilot looks at someone's eyes directly, all of that person's thoughts and memories get projected into your mind at once. It is a jumbled mess, so there's not much information you can get from that, but the idea inspired me to write something, which I'll leave below the cut!
"Take the visor off." Alambra's voice felt rough, without feeling.
"Bu- But I nee-"
"I know." She cut them off, while her eyes twitched slightly, but the kid didn't notice. "I gave you an order."
They hesitated for a moment, turning their head towards General Praxis, but she just nodded back. "You've heard your captain."
The visor came off with a hiss as it detached from the bone anchors, and the patch of skin it was covering breathed for the first time in a while, a paler tone than it's surroundings. The recruit was shutting their eyes forcefully, shaking in their loosely fitting boots. "Please I-"
"Look into my eyes."
They didn't dare, trying to find an excuse, but no words came to them.
"I said..." The captain grabbed their face and got as close as she could, her voice still monotone, but bubbling with something weirdly similar to anger.
The sudden feeling of the leathery hand made the rookie recoil, opening their shimmering eyes, which found a deep dark well within their captain's.
A flash. A series of explosions. Pure light all around, followed by dark spots. Images of fallen soldiers littered their mind, holding onto hands that weren't theirs, screaming the captain's name. A birthday party for a child, then 34 more, all happening at the same time, the candles burning the recruit's mind as music from before the war screamed at them, coming to a halt with a scratch. Orders. Countless orders, shouted in unison, crackling with static. Then the feeling of fire coursing through their veins as needles pierced the captain's skin. They could feel every second of the operation that replaced her broken vertebrae. A result of the explosion, they can see the flames around them, a home turned inferno. A kid looks into the mirror as they face hell. They can feel the skin coming off after she runs into the street. The beginning of the war flashes before their eyes, they weren't even born yet. It's just as their parents said it had been, and then it's back to the war, back to barracks were drunken singing can be heard, back to barracks were lips met, back to barracks were...
They scream and fall to the ground, or at least their body tries to, but the captain grabs her by the shoulders. Her arms are firm, strong enough to hold back armies, with hands that have taken down endless battalions. They can feel vile in the back of their throat as their mind clears again, the thoughts suddenly leaving with only a slimy darkness as proof they were once there.
"You are under my command now." The captain shouts, but her voice barely shifts. "This is your first lesson."
I was so excited about this update and GOD the possibilities it unlocks!!! Mech Cores add new ways to play and approach combat, and they mak
I've had soooo much fun making this update, and now it's up and waiting for you to try it!!! This update brings Digital Consciousness to your mechs, so now you'll also have a relationship with them!!! You know the roleplaying opportunities are endless :D and there's 400 possible combinations between the 20 Mech Cores and the 20 Pilot Playbooks (I added 3 new Pilot Playbooks!).
I feel like I say this a lot but HUGE update!!! At least it has felt huge as I was writing it hshs What we got is Swarm Combat, which means
Swarm combat might just be the coolest thing I've added to the game until now! Getting to play out huge combats between groups of mechs is SO FUN!!! Can't wait to keep playtesting and adjusting this game, hope you enjoy it!!!
you have never been the type to rush into battle, you prefer a more strategic approach. You find the best spot for your mech, deploy your stabilizers, and anchor it like the piece of heavy artillery it is. The moment you have taken your position, you know it's over for whoever dares enter your cannon's range.
for the unaware pilot, you are the monster their parents warned them about, a force of methodical destruction to be reckoned with, and that's because you're using the Mortar Core! One of the new Mech Cores I'm adding in Mechtale's 1.9 update! That's right! A whole update devoted to making your mechs cooler with unique cores that give them unique skills and personalities!
Mechtale 1.9, coming soon to an itch.io window close to you!
I know, I know, marching into battle inside your mech makes you feel like a god, but long wars start becoming monotonous sometimes, and you're not to blame for wanting to take a day to unwind and rest. Well, I can't promise you a getaway, but you could be sipping a fruity drink and talking to your girlfriends while piloting your mech with this simple trick! Just get a neural implant so that you can control your metal beast from far away! It's a simple surgery and you'll really enjoy your newfound free time!
anyway, it could also be used to pilot your mech while you're sneaking around the battlefield, killing any careless soldier you find, so I think it's still worth it to get the new Bonded Core! One of the new Mech Cores I'm adding in Mechtale's 1.9 update! That's right! A whole update devoted to making your mechs cooler with unique cores that give them unique skills and personalities!
Mechtale 1.9, coming soon to an itch.io window close to you!
One last drop Chapter 2 just dropped! We got some light teasing and some lore for our main girl Thasia, so go see her get stunlocked! hshs
I can't wait to keep working on this project, really makes me want to focus on Tales From The Core (TTRPG) to get a working prototype to publish and playtest already!
