13.11.18 // update - I know I haven’t been as active recently, and that’s just because uni is really really busy! But I wanted to say that I know med interviews are coming up soon, so if anyone has any questions please do send me an ask - or I could even write a post with my tips. Hope everyone’s doing well ✨
Hey I have a medicine interview for Birmingham on Thursday any tips x
Hello! I have a post here with my tips for preparing for a med interview, and these are some tips for the couple of days leading up to the interview.
At this point I would focus on going over your personal statement and researching the uni, as well as anything you have identified as being your weak point.
Most of all, try to be confident without coming across as arrogant, and sound enthusiastic about both medicine and the uni. Wishing you the best of luck! X
The UCAT exam is one of the most important elements of any aspiring medical candidate’s application to medical school. Forming up to one-third of the entry needs for candidates around Australia New Zealand, the UCAT exam is designed to assess the critical thinking, non-verbal reasoning, and…
If you're consistent and are committed to sitting down to do your UCAT preparation every single day, there will no need to consume your whole day. Dedicating a maximum of 2-3 hours every single day to do UCAT prep will be enough as per us. For more details visit us at https://www.icanmed.com.au/
For the Verbal Reasoning section of the UCAT Exam, you'll need to read a written passage of approx. 200-300 words and answer related questions. It lasts for 21 minutes and is often considered the most time-pressured from all the UCAT sections. For more details visit us at https://www.icanmed.com.au/
It was May 27, 2016 when I learned that I wasn't accepted to the only med school that I applied to. I was prepared for it. Didn't really expected na I would get in since my grades were average even though my NMAT was relatively high. They said that grades didn't matter but we all know that that's bull.
Prior to the interview, I've been reading blog posts on how these students were able to get accepted to this particular school. I always see one thing in common and it was that they were all laude graduates. WTH, diba? How am I supposed to surpasse laude graduates when I can barely crawl my way through college. Average student here! Sobrang natakot na talaga ako kasi wala akong laban sa kanila but since my application was already accepted and may date na for interview I decided to still go. My mom was really supportive and keep on telling me that I could do it pero there was still a little nagging feeling na deep down inside I know that I can't. Syempre I can't let them know that I was really worried diba so I just kept on telling people that "kakayanin yan ng powers ko." However, we all know na hindi talaga siya kinaya ng powers ko.
During D-day, the day they announces the accepted applicants, I was cramming a paper that I needed to pass (mind you, I'm still in school because of the acad shift). So nawala talaga sa isip ko na ilalabas na nila yung results. I was too busy to think about it or get worried. By the time na nakauwi na ako, all I could think about was sleep. So I immediately changed to clean clothes, washed the nasty traffic dirt off my face, and was getting ready for a nap when my phone rang. It was my mom calling to tell my if I was okay. Apparently, lumabas na yung results and ayun nga waley si atey. I couldn't react immediately because I was too surprised. My initial reaction, however, was of course 'di ako makakapasok since a lot of the applicants were better than me. I told my mom it was okay kasi OA na niya sad daw for me. Sumasakit na yung lalamunan ko kakapigil ng iyak besh. Hirap po. Anyway, I kept telling her that I was okay and said that I still have to do a lot of acads so she hung up.
That was when all hell broke loose. Parang "release the kraken!" moment 'yun eh. I couldn't stop crying parang end of the world na. I was alone in my room so feel na feel ko talaga na aping-api ako lol. Mga 5 minutes into the crying, my mom called again so pinilit kong magsalita ng maayos. Ang hirap talaga and medyo naiinis na ako na hindi ako makaiyak in peace. When she hung up again, ayun part 2. The worst part was when my lola kept on banging on the door and telling me to eat dinner. Nagluluksa po ako dito syempre I can't eat.
I fell asleep eventually and woke up around 10 pm I think? Food was still on the table and I was crazy hungry so I pushed myself off the bed. I also ate pancit canton pala (after a year of not eating) since I was in dire need of comfort food and walang legit hot choco sa bahay. Not healthy pero idrc.
The next day, I was okay na. Parang walang nangyari lang. Binge watched Running Man and nakalimutan ko na lahat. So that's how I cope with rejection. BTW, this is my first rejection EVER kaya I don't know how to handle or react to it.
Even though, I wasn't able to get in I'm still thankful for the experience. I can assure you that next year I'd be better in interviews!
I hope I didn't bore you with that. If you want to know more about my experience or more about me (hehe lol) then just comment or message me!
