I know it’s to be expected in a competitive course but one of my best friends wasn’t accepted into medicine and I don’t know how to comfort her. She doesn’t want to talk to me for a few days which I understand except it kinda hurts. I just wish I had magic words that could take away the devastation she must feel at working so hard to get somewhere only to be rejected.
New Beginnings
I finally got offered a place in the medical program that I wanted, it’s been a long time coming for sure. There have been so many times when I’ve cried over what I perceived as monumental failures: my senior exams when I didn’t receive A’s, my final score which was two ranks lower than what I expected (and needed), my shitty UMAT results and my interview which I was sure I messed up. So many times I just wanted to give up knowing at the same time that medicine was the only course I wanted more than anything else. I made it in. I didn’t give up. I now have to hope I do well once I start studying.
Anyway, I guess I’m just ecstatic and hope that I can manage to do okay in this challenging course.
Medical Student Experience: Enthusiasm I was given the opportunity to be the surgeon’s assistant for a left inguinal hernia repair procedure.
Medical School:Have A Kit Kat…Take A Break! In medical school, you adopt the ‘work hard’ culture, but it is equally important to remember the culture of relaxation.
Elective In Nigeria – Why? Why not? There are a variety of medical specialities that would be a great opportunity to explore in Nigeria as a medical student.
My Clinical Experience So Far I really enjoyed the experience of working in a clinical environment. I was excited because it felt unreal, I’d fought hard to get into medical school and I was potentially standing in the environment I would be working in in the near future.
