Ladies, look out for each other. Stand up for each other. A guy was bothering me on the train this morning. this lady sitting across from me took off her glasses, on high alert, I made eye contact with her and instantly felt relief. As he left, she slid down the seat and asked if I was okay, what stop I was getting off on and if I had pepper spray. I didn't.
She was getting off before me, so she rummaged around in her bag and handed me this discreetly. He still saw that, got defensive and caused a ruckus. I had to make it look like I was getting off and change cart. Happy Monday

I started 3rd year last September. So far, I’ve done IM, OB/GYN, Surgery and Peds. Everyone told me they see me going into peds so i was eager to start peds. It was an easy rotation. outpatient. Mostly well-child checkups, and since there were too many students on this rotation, I didnt have to come everyday.
I have one fond memory, made this one kid stop crying and got him to cooperate with us. He had white coat syndrome and started crying when the other students tried to approach him, only reason I picked up on it cause luckily I wasn't wearing the white coat, so I ushered the others to leave and knelt down to his eye level and calmed him down, reassured him that everything was going to be okay, I extended my hand, and he instantly grabbed it with his little fingers. . we walked out to get his eye check up. My only superpower with little kids is that I still watch cartoons, and its an incredible wonder to see the child’s eyes light up when you tell him that superman vision needs a checkup. Then we tested his hearing. His mum thanked us for our help. The very next day I got called in on my off day, I went to the clinic in normal clothes cause when I got the call I was out and about-- lets just say I had a pounding headache after seeing one particular kid who jinxed me cause after that encounter every interaction for the remaining days was similar. Everyone was laughing at the horror this mini-banshee put me through! and the doc too decided to comment this time “scared of kids already? dont you want to become a paediatrician?” ... ah no sir I do not.
honestly most toddlers didnt let me get close to them. makes me think im not cut out for it. something bout my masked face scared them?
Regardless, I loved every second of it. even enjoyed the commute, cause it was a gorgeous walk through an old neighbourhood when I got off the bus. Medcity has old city charm, old buildings are covered in vines, trees look ancient and some folks let their gardens go- mother nature takes a wild turn, some of these front yards look like ancient jungle while others enchanted meadow. With hum of the car engine coming to life in the distant, honking, people talking, you cant miss the chirping birds- they are everywhere!
I was told by 3 students that I apparently was the favourite of the doctor. It felt good and awkward. Why they think so is because: he had a little booklet of questions, and we used to try to solve them and then go to him with our reasoning. This one time I was with the patient and apparently when the group solved the question without me and went to the doctor for the answer, the doctor told them to wait for me to come back then he’ll tell everyone together. We also had an undergrad kid shadowing us (yes the same cute idiot whom I had to be the responsible adult with -___- I swear he look like he was at least 22) and according to him the doctor told him to shadow me *shrug*. It was super embarrassing for the last 3 weeks of the rotation I kept denying all of it.
