August 13, 2016 Happy birthday, Saul! On Saturday I slept in until 11 or so. That was lovely! Another group of four guys had come into the room late at night, and living in a hostel, I don’t get the best sleep everyday, but it all is fine. Anyways, I got ready, and Nitin did, too. He needed to change hostels, so he went to did that. I went down the main road and grabbed a grilled ham and cheese sandwich for lunch. I people watched a bit, then headed back past the hostel towards the bus. A girl asked me about the area, and we discovered that we were both going to Cala Major, a beach nearby. Her name is Bella and she is from Sweden. She is so beautiful! We decided to link up for the day. We chatted for the bus ride and realized too late that we had missed our stop! We ended up at the Illetes beach that the group of us had gone to the night before. It was so beautiful, but small! And I was meeting Johanna, her two sons (I met them at the hostel), and Nitin, at Cala Major, so we hopped back on the bus, and eventually made it to Cala Major! We met up with Johanna, and Bella and I grabbed a drink and snack. We headed back and laid out for a few hours. Nitin and Nati (a lovely girl from Argentina from the hostel) joined us and we all hung out for a while. The sun was very hot this day! The previous day, at the German beach, it was windy, so it was bearable to be in the sun for a long time. But I definitely got sunburnt on my legs and back at Cala Major. Natie and I both napped for a while and it was lovely, but still, I got badly sunburnt, haha. After being in the sun and sea for a while, Nitin, Nati, Bella, and I grabbed another drink at a cool bar on the beach. We enjoyed the view and beach for a bit longer, then all took the bus back to the hostel. Nitin stayed on the bus longer to go to his hostel, while Bella and I switched clothes and prepared to go back to the German area, for beer, and to meet up with the German girls from the day before. (It sounds like we’re drinking a lot, but that’s just what people do while on a beach vacation, haha.) Nati didn’t join us, but Bella and I caught the bus to the city center to meet up with Nitin. Once we did, we hopped on another bus to Arenal. It took a while again, but we got to the beach and met up with Maria and Anastasia. The sun was setting and it was so beautiful! Bella loved it, being her first day in Palma. We stayed at the beach for a bit, then decided to grab some dinner. I had some seafood paella, that I thought was good! I was happy to have regional food. It was fun to hang out, the five of us, one Kazakhstani German, one Russian German, one Indian Swede, one Afghani Swede, and one American; I really enjoyed learning about some of their cultures. After dinner, we headed back to the Oktoberfest-eske area. The German girls loved it, and Nitin did too! But for me and Bella it was a bit overwhelming. There were many more people there than the previous night! It was a fun experience, but I’m more looking forward to the real Oktoberfest with Natalie! We hung out there for an hour or so, with random drunk German guys coming up to Bella and I, haha. We were over it, so we wandered the boardwalk, the met back up with Nitin to catch one of the last buses back. The way back to our hostel was (again) an ordeal! There was a group for eight or so French guys, maybe in their late teens or early twenties. They were drinking and listening to music near us in the back of the bus. When we finally made it to the center, at Nitin’s stop, they got off with us, too. We said goodbye to Nitin, then hopped on the next bus to get Bella and I home. The French guys got on that bus, but had to dump their drinks out. One of their friends got left outside because he took so long and the bus driver moved to the next stop. The guys were so mad and yelling at the driver and security guard (yes, apparently they need security on the buses late at night). They were so rowdy the whole ride. And the bus got so full! Then, Bella notices the smell of weed, and someone was smoking in the back! So the bus had to stop and the driver and security went back there. It was wild. Then the French guys got loud again and the bus driver threatened to kick them off. Haha, finally we made it past the party and night club area, and made it home. It took so long! In hindsight we should have taken a taxi from the center, but oh well. It was an adventure. Bella and I went right to bed when we got back, right around 2am. :]
