Strange example showing that networking works:
Networking was always a concept to me that I thought knew how it worked and my professors kind of overemphasized the importance of. Like "yeah sure networking is super important blah blah is this going to be on the exam?" But here is my (I guess?) success story with it.
So I'm a housekeeper for a couple that lives down the road from me. I've only been cleaning their house for a couple of weeks when I get a text from the husband. He tells me that a buddy of his just bought a nationally recognized stock show magazine. (So casual too. "My buddy bought this magazine." Like it's no big deal. They're pretty rich family) He knows I'm studying Media Communication (for those who dont know TV, newspapers, magazines, PR, advertising, social media, etc) rn at my university and said he put in a good word for me and wanted to know if I wanted to write some articles for them.
I am a 19yo sophomore in college and I just got offered a job at a NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED magazine by the dude whose house I clean. Wild. Networking (in a strange way) works.
