Reason #1098776
This is a quick rant so most likely ill advised and badly written.
I have read lots of tumblr blogs and comics recently about the representation of women and people of colour in media. This got me thinking about the things I watch, read and see on a daily basis.
Last week I finished reading Tina Fey's book 'Bossypants' which was an entertaining holiday read! This week I started a new book. I realised that (so far) the only mention of women in this book has been 'my wife Rachel' and 'the women come to watch once a month with their kids and a picnic'. Great.
One of my favourite bands are http://punchcrew.tumblr.com/ Not only are they amazing but they have a female lead vocalist in a complete sausagefest scene. For every twenty hardcore bands there is probably one band with a female member.
Mainstream sport I won't even mention.
So yeah reason #1098776 why Roller Derby is great:
Women are represented REALLY well!
We aren't outsiders looking in!
And if you think I am moaning my guess is you are a white man AMIRITE?
