When everything is new, you have nothing to draw on when you come across it. There is no fear, but only because you do not understand the concept of fear. It is foreign to you the way color and objects and beasts and man are foreign. Your eyes are wide, drinking in information while the strange things draw close and lift your sturdy frame and a sensation travels through your body. you feel where they are touching you but you do not understand. You follow the touch and a shiver runs through your body because the air is not the same as you and you feel the minute hairs raise to ward off cold.
You are dragged without resistance to a place that is unknown and they set you down. Your head lolls because you have not the inclination or knowledge that it can be moved as you stare with wide, wondering eyes. A device is strapped to your head and you are forced to look straight in front of you while they cram as much knowledge as possible into the empty well that is your brain.
You are released hours later, a distressing feeling emanating from the body that you don't know or understand. A mental search through your newfound knowledge pulls up many ailments, some worse than others, and you feel fear for the first time. Your heart clenches painfully in your chest and your breath hitches. You don't know what to do because they taught you so much, but only the field of medicine. You do not even know how to ask for help.
One of the things comes and the pressure returns, tugging your hand to follow. It is different from the others, smaller and a slightly different shape to it. It makes you stop and does something to you; the discomfort that made you shiver is now gone, replaced by a feeling of restriction. You look down at yourself for the first time and realise you look like the things that were lifting you and teaching you.
The small thing that looks different and the same as you and the other things that are not you takes you to a room and sits you down. It takes your arm and a needle and sticks it in the vein of your arm before laying you down and you feel strange. You look up at the ceiling and wait. The feeling gradually fades, but there is a different feeling.
It slowly builds, a pressure deep and low and it gets to be terrible, but you are alone and you do not understand and you lay there waiting for those things that look like you but are not you. You do not understand, so you stay where you are. Eventually the feeling gets too big and then goes away. A different feeling replaces it, dampness, but you don't know what it is so you ignore it.
One comes, different from the small one and the ones that lifted you. It's eyes are in front of its face, shining in the light as it looks at you. Something about it makes the feeling of cold and fear appear again and you shiver. It makes a sound and then makes a strange movement.
It repeats the action, raising its voice, and you try to move away. It makes a different noise, even louder and you go still. It then makes the first noise again, quieter, but it makes you anxious. You swallow reflexively and shift closer. It makes the gesture again and you stand, walking over unsteadily without another thing to support you. It makes several noises at you and you look at it dully. It makes sharp noises and turns away, walking off without you. You follow because you want to know what it is doing.
It turns suddenly and makes noises and you look at it blankly. It growls and grabs you, the pressure painful and making you try to pull away. It stays though and you are pulled too fast as you are taken to a thing that is different from the others, sitting with their hands in front of their face and making your heart clench. You hear the exchange, loud noises from the thing that looks more like you and quiet ones from the things that looks like and unlike you.
You are taken somewhere again and strapped into a device again and more knowledge in pumped into you. You are taught the sounds others make and their meaning and then you are released, dizzy and confused and your head hurting from too much to fast too soon.
But now you understand when the man demands you approach and come to him. He tells you to follow and you do, walking behind him and watching him move as he goes through the hallway and through a door. The sudden bright light blinds you and you recoil, but you follow as you blink the effervescent lights from your eyes. You are told to sit in the car and he buckles you in before settling down himself. He scowls, muttering noises you don't understand, but you don't care. You are looking at all the new things you are seeing for the first time.
Soon enough you are where you need to be and he unbuckles you before stepping out. You step out as well and into a place known as Team Fortress.
